thanks Rick,

then i will just get a Chinese one for a back up. I also read in the forums that when they go out that they can destroy the electronic ignition, do the newer ones also do that? do you have a preferred vendor to purchase from, i dont want to get an older version.

If you look around you should be able to find an NOS coil. I've picked up several over the last year. I think I paid $120 for the last one and that wasn't that long ago. Good luck!

Pete Debella has the newer versions but I don't know if Louie mentioned it in that video or not, I didn't watch it, but according to his tests the newer coils can cause issues with the electronic modules causing them to possibly be damaged. It is best to use the new Chinese coils with a points setup and then you do not have to worry about taking out a module. Send a pm to Louie and ask about his tests on the coils. he knows a lot more about testing them than I do.

I think Lou tested the new black ones, had about the same results as the shiny ones. NOS coils are getting hard to find and fetching top dollar and buying a T/O is just a risk, never know how it will react after it is warmed up, this is probably a good deal if it was tested.
