Removing glass from window frame

Unread post by richard » February 21st, 2022, 6:38 pm

Hello Experts,

What is the best way to remove (or release) the glass from the window frame WITHOUT destroying anything?

TIA

Can't really offer any advice on this one but if you don't hear anything PM 199mp. Glass was his job for many years.

the note mark posted, which i wrote, is a "how to" for installing a new gasket on the windshield. it doesn't really address how to remove your old glass without damaging anything. if you have any questions i can help with, send me a note.

Have replaced window glass twice in my life, 1967 Volkswagen Bug and 79 CJ5. Both are similar to the mutt. The trick is to find a piece of rope that is just the right thickness to work between the inside of the rubber and window frame. It has to be thick enough to stay in place by the tension of the rubber, but not so thin that it does not stretch the rubber away from the frame.

This takes patience to work the rope in the gap while pulling the rubber away from the frame. When the rubber is spread all around the frame by the rope, you give the glass a really good push, and the glass still in the rubber gasket will separate from the frame. Make sure you have a helper, because you will be applying a lot of tension on the glass to get the window to pop out of the frame, and it can do so quite suddenly! Good Luck! :!:
