adding fuel to the carb

Unread post by elmer » September 21st, 2022, 7:48 am

hello everyone.
I would like to ask if anyone knows why when I don't start my M151A2 for 3 weeks, it doesn't start unless I put a little gasoline directly into the carburetor.
With a syringe I inject a little of gasoline right in the inlet pipe, then engine turns on immediately
My carb is a zenith

Are you pulling the choke all the way out when you try to start it? It will take a few cranks for it to pick up fuel. Once it fires once then push the choke in about halfway and hit the starter again and it should fire right up. No fuel injection here. And pumping the gas pedal will do no good since the accelerator pump is vacuum operated, if it is not running the pump will not work.

Pull your air cleaner hose, pull your choke lever out and make sure the butterfly is closing completely, needs to close all the way off.

Hi, Thanks for the responses. I try to do it as Rickf says but the problem is that even if I do it that way it doesn't start.I try with more than 6/7 cranks but nothing happens. The problem only happens when it is stopped for more than 3 weeks. If I do it as you say and the engine starts every week it starts perfectly.
Tomorrow I will check what Hambone says

Hi everybody,
This afternoon ,after 6 weeks without use my A2.I have started the engine following Rickf tips and the engine started perfectly.
I pulled the choke all the way out,I took two or three cranks then I pushed the choke in about Halfway or less , I hit the starter and everything was good.
Thanks Rickf

You just have to love a vehicle with no mechanical accelerator pump. pumping the gas pedal before starting does nothing on a vehicle with vacuum operated accelerator pump. So it is all choke.
