I don't think the early engines had any decals on the valve cover.

I have two very early engines that are blue, and I have seen two other real early engines also blue. My 64 is green along with a spare early, also green. I think the replacement engines were all black as were all the A2 engines.

I don't know about the very early engine, but wasn't most green until 72, when AMG took over?

engine colors, seems to be a never ending subject with no ultimate conclusion. Check out the other current thread "found on CL..". It has a link to where somebody sells 3 engines. All A2, AMG, two are green and one is black.
In my case, Barstow A2, engine block is black and valve cover is green :)

Well, I know the A2 came with a black driveline and undercarriage. That was an AMG thing. The early Ford A2's were green just like the A1's. All of the replacement engines are black. Maybe any replacement engines made in the A1 days might have been green but has anyone ever seen one? You probably have in a vehicle and did not know it. Who knows? Ken???

Just happened to walk past one of my early blue engine thins morning and it has a black valve cover with no decals and no evidence of ever having any. The hood on my A1 is covered with stuff right now so can't look at that one.
