Vehicle markings

Some time back this picture was posted. Question was asked what the markings in front on left rear tire might be.

With the weather being what it is, time for old movies. The following pics from a movie filmed at Ft. Benning in 1968.

Interesting about speed limit markings. Paved. Unpaved.

Just guessing here but I would think the fuel rate was so Private bonzo did not attempt to fill the vehicle with the huge fast fill nozzles used for the huge tanks on trucks and heavy equipment. 17 gallons would fill that tank in one minute and be sloshing all over the place. Although by this time most everything was diesel so the fast fill nozzles were all diesel I would guess. Military's propensity for wanting to letter everything. Like the speed restrictions, Yea, they were obeyed.

Anyone notice the M14 for the driver of the driver? Kind of strange since this is an A1, that would have been later on and past the M14 years.

I went through basic at Fort Knox in January 1970. We had M14s for the first 3 months and were then issued M16A1 rifles. Then I went to AIT, also at Fort Knox, and was issued an M14 again for a little over a month when we switched to M16A1s. Then I was transferred to the 3rd Armored Division in Germany, 2/36th Inf. Again, back to M14s. Almost 6 months later we were changed to M16A1s. I actually never learned the Manual of Arms for the M16. I learned it for the 1911 .45 and for the M3 grease gun. I was 11D20 and we were issued .45s and M3s since it was difficult to get rifles in and out of track hatches.

Good Morning 1SGCAV77:

I believe the movie was the 'Green Beret'. It starred John Wayne, Jim Hutton, Aldo Ray, David Janssen and several others. I believe that is Aldo Ray walking to the front and beside the jeep in the middle picture with David Janssen behind the windshield on the passenger side. In the bottom picture, I believe that is John Wayne with his back toward the camera in the passenger seat and I dont know the actors name but I believe the driver is the movie character, Provo, who they named the privy after him. Just some guesses on the trivia.
