turn signals not working

Unread post by bobcat1/178th » March 10th, 2024, 7:42 pm

I have had military solid state modern style turn signal and flasher for 9 years....Today when trying turn signal the indicator light is on without flashing ...Turn signal bulbs do not light up at all...I checked bulbs and wiring and all seem ok....Could the flasher unit have gone bad?

hi

take the plug from the flasher unit and take a wire
if you make A and B at the plug together the lights must go on (not interrupting )
the B at the flasher plug is 24 volt
the A is the pulse from the unit to the switch
at the switch connector F 24 out to the flasher unit
the H at the switch is the pulse entrance from the flasher unit

As George says jump those connections and that will tell you if all of the wiring and the selector on the column are all good, it just will not flash. This narrows it down to the flasher control unit. Since it is mounted to the floor make sure the ground is good. Some have a ground wire going to one of the mounting screws and others ground through the case to the body. If it has the wire take the screw out and clean the connections and put it back together and if it does not have the wire remove the box and clean all of the screw hole connections and reinstall and see if it is now working. Make sure the floor is not rusty where the screws go through the floor.

hi

wire C at the flasher is the ground
at the harnass it is wire no 57
it make ground at a bolt left inner fender (the same as the alternator wire no 3 and left headlight no 91)

Ok, I was thinking of an A1 then. One of them has a ground at the control and I have seen problems there in the past.

In case your still havin problems:

I had a very similar issue and it was the flasher unit as Rick said.
I had a bad ground.

If ya don’t have any luck with that,
I also have had signal issues because of a poor ground of the turn signal stalk where it attaches to the steering column.
I have also had the internals of the stalk where they make contact inside the lever of the unit not making complete contact because the spring tension on them was wore-out and weak.
I have a spare unit that did not function at all, took it apart and because those internal contacts mentioned above were grimy/dirty. Cleaned them with
CRC QD electronic cleaner. ( I know it’s obvious but I’ll still say….Make sure ya disconnect the power to the unit before ya clean it).
Works now.
