Radio Mount
Okay Guys,
I found this surfing and was wondering if it's worth the $25.00 asking price.

Tim,
I would say yes. Especially as it comes with the power cable.
However I decided to spend a few bucks more and get a NOS one. That way I saved time to repaint it. The supply on new ones seems to be still good. I found that the simple sponson support plate which you need for the 151 was more expensive than the significant more complicated mount.

Tim: The MT-1029 is the correct mount for the prick 25/77 and RT-524/246. What Horst and I were talking about is just a new old stock item (NOS) rather than a used one. The one you have pictured is the early paint.
They do exist and you see them for about 35-40 dollars. Although I just checked Fair Radio and their price for a used one is $35.00 and Gov Rebuilt for $60.00 plus shipping. I’d have to check to see what I paid for mine.
$25.00 is not a bad price for what you found, but as was said they are not hard to find.

Floyd,
I'm not in a real hurry to get the stuff needed for a radio installation. I'm still trudging along on the restoration buying parts and doing what I can in the cold. I just happen to come across this item and thought I'd ask the question. Don't want to pass up a deal especially when I have the finance ministers blessing, i.e. wife, to buy whatever I need
Tim
BTW I still have to paint the A-2 so I can repaint the mount.

The TM 11-5820-401-10-4 has an illustration that shows the complete radio installed. Can I use the part numbers in this illustration to figure out what I need? If so, than I need the mount, CX 4720 power cable, CG 1773 and CX 4722 antenna cables. However, the antenna part number shown, AS-1729/VRC, is this the complete assembly or just the antenna base?
mount
The AS-1729 is the complete set consisting of 1 MX-6707 base,1 antenna bottom section AS-1730,1 top section AS-1095,and an antenna tie down kit.
The pic you have is a relatively good deal for 25.00,I sell a NOS MT-1029 for 35.00 and all three cables(1 CX4720,1 CX4722,1 CG1773) NOS for 30.00.I also have NOS and used MX-6707s and antenne sets.
Your best bet is to pick them up at a meet to save on shipping.

Is it an early or later MT1029 mount? The easiest way to tell is the ground strap connecting the top and bottom plate. If it has one ground strap, it is a later one. If it has two ground straps, then it is an earlier one.
Not a big deal, only if you are getting real picky for restoration accuracy. Every once in a while, the sponson plate for an MT1029 comes up on Epay. I have seen them go for as little as $20.00. Poeple must not know what they are really for, I guess.

plates
I have a bunch of the used sponson plates for the radio and the smaller ones for the R442 receiver.

Somewhere around 68-69, (as I recall), they switched to one strap to ground between the top and bottom plates instead of two. The only difference it would make is how accurate you want your restoration to be,. Some people are ubber critical with details. Most wouldn't know. As far as a performance difference....no matter. Some people say you tell if it is a late or early one simply by the paint. I had taken CARC painted early style ones off of GI rigs, and I have seen semi-gloss (seemingly original) painted ones that were late style.
Nit-picking, it's all about nit-picking.
