Hey Roger,
If it's something you felt comfortable restoring, it's the deal of the century. Maybe the deal won't go through and you'll get a chance to send him papal funds. If not, there's other M151's out there, and one will drop into your lap if you keep your eyes open long enough. I looked for an M416 trailer for a few years, and then found two here in Ohio in a 6 month time period, each for under $400. If the logistics aren't good, you'll find one close to home. A bunch on ebay currently, like four I think. Snipers always win the auctions, but bidding on these is not very hot currently. Don't be disappointed you missed a deal, their like buses and women. :D There was a nice on for sale in San Jose last year. There will be another one by soon.

Hey Roger,
I heard on Colbert last week, that when he asked one of his reporter Ron Riggle who was a Marine, if it was true that the Marines were just a department of the Navy, he responded "YES, the MENS department". Would make for a decent quote line, but I'm no Marine. As far as I was concerned though, it was the mens department too. :D

Roger, I saw your other post looking for a 151 and you said you needed it to be in running, driving condition. This one looked good from the top but the bottom was completely gone in the rear crossmember area and had been patched in the middle. That area in the rear is where the rear suspension attaches and is a major structural area. I would not consider that one a driver. I had posted that early in the post. It could be repaired but it would take a LOT of fabrication.

Yup, good 'ole saying. You can also quote Chesty if you want as well. "Take me to the Brig. I want to see the "real Marines"." lol another famous one from the Korean war, (Col Puller commanded 1st MARDIV) is "All right, they're on our left, they're on our right, they're in front of us, they're behind us--they can't get away this time!" also has been reported as "We're surrounded...that simplifies the problem."

rainman, what you been drinkin that late at night {Dickel I would guess, no?} to get so confused?
Anyway, the 'Men's dept' comment was on The Daily Show and not Colbert. I can get both of them on the internet here in france a day or two after the live showing. In fact, my main USA news source is Jon Stewart, I have trouble following Colbert, but his shows with the troops this summer were super.
BTW During that interview, Sec Nav mentioned that the total of US uniformed service men today is around 2,000,000 out of 300,000,00+ citizens which surprised me, I would have thought the figure much higher.
When I am back in the US i am always surprised to see soldiers in camo fatigues in the stores and restaurants. Back in our day, we couldn't wear fatigues off post. I guess these guys are reserves as there is no military installation nearby so it shows they are proud to wear it, and get respect.

Top,

They changed the rules back in the mid 90's allowing military members to wear fatigues to stores and restaurants.

In the 60's and 70's it was not a good idea at all to wear any military uniform on the streets unless you were in a group of others. Even then it was basically just asking for a fight.

Not in the Corps. It's still against regulations to wear fatigues unless you're on your way to work. Heck, you not supposed to even stop in a mikki D's to get a breakfast sandwich.
