Mounting tires

Unread post by Francis Marion » December 22nd, 2009, 1:27 pm

I've got all these new tires and just learned that these tubed tires are not as easy to change as a bicycle tire. Any tips on how to remove an old tire?

You can get a bead breaker from Harbor Frieght and than use some pry bars to bring the bead over the rim. Just make sure you don't pinch the tube and use lots of soapy water. I took mine to Les Schwab because I didn't want to deal with it.

I brought mine into work with me and had the mechanics there break 'em down. It's good to know low people in high places. Not knowing anything about military motor pools, could you bring your tires to the MP (motor pool) on base and have them dismount & then re mount your tires for you? Maybe some sort of compensation would sweeten the deal? Just a thought.

The motor pool is 35 miles away with snow coming down. Les Schwab is about 4 blocks away. I guess it's worth my time to pay Les Schwab. I could also use them to break the lug nuts loose without breaking the lugs like I did last time I changed a tire. Maybe even get them to check the alignment since they only charged $50 for the truck last week... Guess I'd better get moving before I end up giving them the last of my Christmas money.
