Thanks ralph. Aside from serface rust what do you think of the gears?

There is more than just surface rust there. The gears are pretty well pitted. The gears will be fine but the bearings are going to start to make noise on short order. Just looking at the color of the oil in the pictures I can tell you there was a pretty fair amount of water in there. If you are just running around town and no long trips then change the oil and run it. If you plan on taking it on 100 mile trips then I would tear it down and replace all of the bearings and the syncronizers.

The goal is to rebuild the tranny. But for now and around town it will have to do. The picture is from the first time i opened it up. Its been drained and flushed out since then. New 90 weight oil replaced. My dad is a retired mechanic. he said the gears look fine but will need to be replaced later. thanks for posting the pictures.
