service stand

Unread post by smlemk111 » June 22nd, 2010, 7:20 pm

Hi I bought a 1972 151A2 about 3 months ago and have bought the manuals and some thing I needed like belts and hoses as mine were in bad shape . My 151 runs pretty well I removed the Rops as I didnt like them, I was very carefull to remove them without cutting anything. I checked all the lubricant levels and greased the hell out of it and plan to enjoy it this summer and do some cosmetic like welding up the ROP holes and some other extraneous holes this winter, the metal is in good shape with nothing but a little surface rust here and there. I also want to take the wheels apart check the brakes and lube all the bearings amongst some other maintanence. I have been looking on the web and picking up all the information and tips I can. I was on a site called Daves flightline-my M151A2 1/4 ton MV, on the page there is a section called muts in action. That section is pictures of Muts, there is a very interesting picture of a device called a service stand the pictures were credited to TNJ Murrey the parts supplier. Does anyone have pictues that show how this devive functioned? It lifted the 151 up and than it could be rotated to gain prety easey acces to all the underneath. I am looking for pictures that would help me get a better idea of how this thing funtioned and where the lift points on the 151 attached to the stand. It looks like it was made out of about 1.50 inch pipe. If I can get enough picturs of how it works I was thinking about building one. Thanks Al

the general name they are known by is rotisserie... RickF has one for sale right now in the for sale section.

If that doesn't interest you google auto rotisserie and you'll find where a number of people have posted plans on how to build your own...

Hi thanks for the education, I have not been into vehicles before and so had never seen a rotisserie. I had read Ricks add but thought that he was selling some kind of BBQ that the services used. Unfortunatly I live in Oregon and the shipping from the east coast would be cost prohibitive. I had a brief look at the web for rotiseries and there are lots of interesting sites with prints for rotisseries. I thank you all for the come back and appereciate that there are lots of people who will help me on my new hobby. I intend to keep the 151 full military with a camo paint job. Thanks again Al

If you buy one very far away, remember that they weigh quite a bit. Mr.Recovery hauled one across the U.S. a couple years ago. He said it weighed about 2 miles per gallon.

I have a rotisserie especially adapted for the M151, I can't rebuild jeeps anymore.
I paid $1499 a year ago, will sell for $900.
