Problems with 2060 amplifier?

Unread post by ohiomgman » September 15th, 2010, 9:18 pm

I am finishing my install of my 2060 amplifier in my M151A1. With it mounted into the shock mount and the power cord properly aligned and screwed into the shock mount..the wires for the positive power feed, already attached to the battery, which will provide 24 volts...I was preparing to attach the negative wires to the other post...I just "touched" them to the bolt on the battery clamp...SPARKS! The kind that means," wires are going to be melting." I checked both the switches on the 2060 amp and they are in the off position. Tried again SPARKS! WTF?

Is that normal? I would not think so.

Pull the radio out of the mount and try again. That will tell you if it is the radio or the mount.

Hey OMGM,
I have spare mounts and cables, and a known good M2060 if swapping stuff out helps to isolate the issue. Get in touch this afternoon if you need anything.

I will take you up on the offer, but now, I have had to shift to building guns down at the Big Shop. I only gave myself till yesterday to work on the mutt and I had some spare time from turning the wrenches... what with running out of mechanical parts... again. And so...I began the wiring and M2060 install.

It is a rainy overcast day, today, in the polymer capital of the free world... so inside shop work is on the agenda.

I have the M151 parked out in my driveway getting a free rinse... We can diddle with it after you get back from Pa. No big rush.

I have to get some "toys for boys" built and shipped. OMGM.

Rick

I removed the A2060 from the shockmount. NO current draw with it removed. Put the A2060 back in the shock mount...SPARKS!
