My first car show ever.
Never entered a car show before, but I have a work buddy with some collectible "show car" Buicks (A Skylark and Grand National), and I decided to enter the MUTT. So I decked it out in a ton of Vietnam gear, and entered in the Law Enforcement/fire/military class. There were 11 military vehicles, some restored GPWs and MBs, a couple M38s, an M37, a restored Cushman Airborne scooter, and some other stuff. The show in general is 600+ cars. Really good show, a fun day!
Holy crap, I took second place in class!
Had a great time.

Re: My first car show ever.
Way to go buddy, I need to get some more props and make sure I enter into the right class next show. At the Air Auto Classic there was a Truck category I should have entered as there was only one other entry. Maybe I should ask them to have a MV class also? You rig looks great!

Re: My first car show ever.
Thanks, guys.
I really did not expect to place at all, like I said, there were a couple nice WWII Jeeps competing. Oddly, all of them showed up with the canvas tops off, windshield up, and some sort of MG on a pedastal. They all looked the same, and I personally think the "top off/window up" configuration looks the worst on jeeps. Some of them were pretty half assed "this is how I think it should be" restorations, with crap like bed liner on cab floors, goofy paint colors, and stencils and markings which have no basis in reality. I myself can't stand anything that is not "right", or at least plausible in field use. I mean, the correct markings, etc. Locking hubs on a supposedly "restored" WWII Jeep are just wrong no matter what.
I am guessing my display of VN stuff might have made the difference, the only other display to speak of was the class winner, he had some radio stuff and artillery items with his (really nice) M38 flat fender. I did lots of little things, I have real 1960's C-rations, a mess kit, I toss 5.56 shell casings on the floors, etc.
Can't wait to get the radios installed. I have a working pair of PRC-25s on the way, one vehicular mounted, and one with the complete manpack setup. I think I love the "stuff" as much as the truck.

Just don't go overboard on accessories! I always remember the picture that shows up here once in a while of a mutt with a spotlight, and everything else you could possibly put on or in it. Looks ridiculous.

Re: My first car show ever.
I just have a bunch of field gear and weapons, etc. in the display. I agree with you 100%, like I said above, I really am serious about having the truck be really like it would have been used in combat. All that extra crap just gets silly.
The only additions I plan are the PRC-25 setup, and a dummy M60. Can't wait to get one of those. Airsoft will be the likely solution until I can afford a good parts kit.
