R-442 mounting recommendations
I'm mounting a R-442. Is there anything I need to know about spacing near the radio? It is not mounted in the picture.
Where to mount the antenna bracket on the passenger side, so it won't interfere with the side curtains and door when installed. I've seen some mounted at an angle backward, and others mounted straight up.

Re: R-442 mounting recommendations
Here is a picture of the AB-15 antenna that I will be mounting. Is this the correct angle and placement?

Re: R-442 mounting recommendations
The correct angle is straight up I am pretty sure since that is the best receive position for the antennae. The spacing between the radios I am not sure about but I put mine to close together and the covers will not work. What you have there looks right.

Re: R-442 mounting recommendations
Thanks, Rick: That is exactly the kind of information I need. I forgot about having to put the covers on both radios.
Speaking of covers...I bought a couple of NOS R-442 covers for $5.99 plus shipping.

Re: R-442 mounting recommendations
I agree, the spacing in your pic looks right, and the antenna should be vertical, not leaning back.

Re: R-442 mounting recommendations
Thanks, Jim; I've seen several antennas mounted at an angle, and couldn't understand why.

Re: R-442 mounting recommendations
Thanks, Halftrack. The R-442 mount can only be mounted one way, and there is no adjustment as to how far it protrudes into the interior.

The reason I mention it after mounting mine the rear cover will rub on the mount so I have to watch so as not to tear my cover

Re: R-442 mounting recommendations
Gauging from the welded holes,Mine had a 1" gap between the sponsons and the AB-15 was not mounted at an angle. It was on the passenger side rear fender. All of this was presumably installed in service.

What's the length of the support leg?

Here is how the radios and antenna are mounted in mine.
Salt6, the support is 12.75" best I can tell without taking it out.
