Hi Dan,

Serial # on Frame rail:

Dan, on the early fords, there were # s placed on top of the frame rail on the end. On the LEFT Rail, at the very end-UNDER the Grill . Photo submitted of your ASSISTANT by His KNEE area. There were #s stamped into the metal and some had foil tags like the freuhof trailer tags. Does yours have these ? Have the sandblaster be careful around that area, if it is not Too late! THE LEFT RAIL!!!

Well good but bad.... Sandblaster had not got to the body yet, but the tag was gone. some remains of it but its been gone since / before it was orange.

Also could you give a list of odd or items that are particular to this vehicle. I noticed a post elsewhere where you said the horn is different than "standard" or maybe "more common" would be a better word...

I am trying to do this right from the start and not have to rebuy things. I have almost always worked on and restored A2s so I am not even familiar with some of the A1 smaller differences.

Also I checked again (the brake clutch assy) and that bracket to push the starter button down IS on the clutch pedal .

Afew more pictures for the day.. New tires showed up today. I was just going to go with the STA tires but these were just slightly more with the Firestone markings. From what I understand they are actually STA tire with the Firestone and related military markings on them. Well worth the little extra $$ on this restoration.

I NEEEED to wait till the paint hardens up a few more days before getting the new tires mounted

Where did you get your tires? I do need to get a set of those new production NDCCs at some point. I have found that old tires, despite having good tread, just don't hold up off road, chunks get torn off very easily. New production rubber has a lot more pliability.

I need to quit monkeying around with old takeoff tires and just buy a brand new set, 7 tires for the truck and trailer. I don't care if Firestone never made NDCCs on a military contract. These new ones are, like you said, other production with markings added. (That's what I heard, too...)

Well what really pushed me to the Firestones was the M151 article in Army Motors... The prototype Fords had Firestones on them. (at least the ones I could see). The best deal out there is the Summit racing ebay deal. However you look at it. There "checkout" system only charged me 12.50 for shipping on 5 tires. Who am I to argue. :D They were cheaper than buying them from a tire wholesaler here in town with my tax number... Frontline MVs has 700x16 Tubes for like 8.00 or 6.00 soooooo

Way To go Dan !

Sorry I have not responded back to you sooner. The FIRESTONES were the early Ones ! I hope your costs were better than C--Ker tires offerings :) Seems everything is going to plans. Nice rims ! Dan , on Ebay-type M151 and there were listed some early STRAIT M151 parts-NEWLY LISTED-yesterday !! Spare wheel knuckles etc. How were the rims condition=pitting etc ? What primer did your guy use ?

My 1963 willys M151 had 2 1958 issue Firestones and 1 Very early Goodyear and 1 early Cooper on it ! But Firestones were the Classics of the Time :)

Spent most of the day working on MVs (painting)....

I used a two part self etching primer from NAPA for Aluminum and related.

The rims are in good condition. One of them is beat up a bit but no real corrosion issues.

What color is the Air filter supposed to be on the 1962?

Three seperate projects in this picture. All Gilipse Paint

Left - 1962 US Army M151 - 34087 Semi Gloss OD
Center Bottom - 196? USMC M274A4 (my sons project) - USMC Green
Top Center Right - 1978 US Army M151A2 With TOW - 4 color camo Forest Green

Well tthat was my first thought as I have painted it with one coat of black all ready. All the recent talk about so many other items being painted OD made me question it. All the drive line components are OD correct? Drivelines, shocks, suspension etc..

ALL the SUPENSION, All the DRIVE TRAIN were painted OD green. ALL DRIVE SHAFTS and the Half shafts to the wheels were painted OD ! ALSO, the FLAT Airfilter TOP on STRAIT M151 were painted OD !As was the SCREENED airintake Cover.
There were very few pieces on the EARLY Strait M151 that were painted Black. And those components were in the engine compartment.
