,,,,and will soon be doing an external restoration on it.
Heavy bastard...weighs 58 pounds. I got a NOS 1029-shock mount, an MX-6707 antenna base with an AN-1729 antenna set. I found it at the Redball Express MV show near Gilbert Pennsylvania weekend before last. It was well worth the trip.
I found an RT 524 at the Gilbert show..

Hey OMGM,
I'm anxious to see the restoration of the case. I'd redo every radio I have if I see someone else's success. You might want to mention the estimate for a front plate replacement. I was sold on your purchase when I spoke to my radio guy. Added value with the accessories you talked him out of. I won't give up on Dyna-Motor Bob's Tadiran. I can throw up a 2niner2 and do radio checks on you from here.

There was a fellow I was taking to....along with the vendor I purchased the RT524 from. The other fellw said he either was working at,or had worked at the Tobyhanna (sp) Army Depot and that they were given 16 depot hours labor time to R&R the front plate on a RT524 radio..."Lots of little wires that had to have perfect connections"...I think he said... Made me NOT want to mess with pulling off the faceplate to sand and refinish it. We also discussed the ins and outs of doing cosmetic restorations on the various radios. The NOS 1029 mount and the MX-6707 antenna base with an AN-1729 antenna set "sweetned" (Thanks again Frank) the deal. I did not notice the brand new power cable coiled up in the 1029, until I took it out of the trunk of my car...(heavy)... and split the radio from the mount, inside my house. And thanks again Rainman, for helping me move that heavy lump around at the show and back home. Except for a little rain...it was a GREAT trip. Let's do that show again next year.
If it EVER quits raining ...I will plug the 524 in on my M151 and we can do a commo check....not like we live a HUGE distance appart....
I have some 24087 and forrest green, paint...in gallons. I would use my large airbrush to refinish them after a thin coat of Zinc Chromate to provide for good bonding betweet the alloy case and the enamel. I do not have any "CARC green" enamel, in gallons. I should have purchased more paint at the show...
