2014 Va Rally at Graves Mountain Aug 29-Sept 1, 2014 (aka, L

Unread post by cgarbee » June 10th, 2014, 10:17 am

With all the talk about upcomming events and the need for some folks to get things nailed down at work (or with the Significant Other), I thought that I would let everyone know that the VA Rally (aka Graves Mountain MV Trailrides and Rally) will be held on Aug 29-Sept 1, 2014 (aka, Labor Day Weekend).

Amnon has made most of the website updates although we still have to finalize the t-shirt info and add some photos from the last couple of years... (hopefully, this will get done next week...).

We have a few more folks who have agreed to be trailguides so we can have a greater variety of rides happening at once (easy, mild, wild on the moutains and some easy road rides...).

Website with info and the registration form/info flyer is at:
http://www.gravesmountaintrailrides.com/

Hope to see a bunch of you there,
Cabell

I plan on going. We'll put the wife's Jeep Commander (grocery getter!) to the test.

WONDERFUL!
I'll have my M38 with me this year so we can continue our discussion from Aberdeen about body panels... :)
The Jeep Commander will do well on the trails.

Remember that we have a lot of other things in the area, both on-site and off, for those who don't want to ride the trails all day. It is a very familly friendly event.

Yep, you have a streak going on... ;)
I checked out your campsite this past weekend, we have some "no camping" signs up around it to ensure that it remains "pristine" for you...

Well hook Guy up with Steve and see how the Commander does on the backbone. I think I am bringing the CJ this year, I need a something a little easier on the back. I still have to overcome the trailering issue with the RV. I may have to jump on the other camper real fast here.

Bring the CJ and Steve is likely to get you on the Devil's Backbone as well... :)
Seriously, I think that you'll like having the Jeep a lot more than that CUCV you have had, but nothing compares to the M151 for "cool" when driving around the county. ;)

Remember, if you run into issues with the camper/motorhome, I'll stick you in a cabin or motel room on site...

That Jeep was built for Jersey mud, not rocks so I don't know how well that would would work.Motors a little lumpy for rock work. I will need to find some tires for it I think, these are 20 years old. Well with the motel or cabin I still have the dogs to deal with. I think I can get the truck camper there with minor work. I really need some info on structural aluminum about 2x2"x11 1/2 ' to shore up the sagging rear floor.

Some of the cabins and rooms allow hounds... :)
We found plenty of mud while working on the trails two weeks ago, but don't expect to have as much come fall...

Regardless, it's going to be a good time.

There are quite a few different trails and the time and distance varies from a half hour to a half day. From paved and well groomed gravel roads to pretty tight rocks. You can pick your type of ride.

Or you can sit around and do nothing all day, one of my favorites!

Well if there has been any rain it would be tough to avoid a puddle here and there but you could avoid mud holes and bogs with no problem. Actually I have never seen a mud hole or bog there. Maybe on the hard core trips but I haven't been on them.
