Patching up the old girl !

Been doing other things and now getting back on patching my M151. She is a 1/2 cut and was not rebuilt very well.And your every day "RUST" . I will be doing a general repair, not a restor. So on with the show.

Also looking to over haul the trans? Any body in the AZ. ?

In my experience new transmission parts are relative expensive. If you need significant more than fixing leaks, you might be better off by looking for a rebuild one. In case your transfer is noisy, getting a new immediate shaft with rollers and the roller bearing at the brake drum will be financially ok. But if you need synchros and gears for the transmission and gears for the transfer, it gets out of balance quickly.

Interesting pictures. When it was cut it, the cut went through everything, including the brake line. It looks like the original line was kept and the repair splice made with compression fittings. Apparently it has held. Am I seeing that right?

Horst, a rebuilt one may be the way to go. Mine is ok but I want to start using it offroad more. Was looking at the Rhino's and it dawned to me that I have a M151! Not going to do anything nuts, just want a good ride ! I was a motor messenger in Germany in the 70's and put over 200,000 miles on 3 ,151's. Got to know the guy's in the motor pool pretty good. Helped clean parts when doing P.M.'s. Funny thing, we never called them M.U.T.T's.

I found that a 1" x 1 1/2" steel is the same size as the lower flange +-. That lower panel is very flimsy so I added the tubing to the back and built a patch.







And welded it in. Also needed to braze some of it. The repair for the 1/2 cut was brazed in places.



This M151 is # 53 ( that is what the tag under the front grill has on it} but look what I found!



And it is on both L and R kick panels. Cool.

Oh,and more rust!

I would be interested to see a picture of that tag as would ken the muttguru I am sure. I am guessing that is a straight 151? Lets see some pics of the whole vehicle.
I hate it when people use brass, that makes for a tough repair job and a lot of cutting out that sometimes was not needed.

I will try to get a shot of the plate ? As you know I need to pull the grill and that is not in the cards for now. Sorry.

Ya,its very cool.Here is a shot of the tag. It reads 053 can't see the 0 from this angle.

It is odd to see one that early that is cut, it must have stayed in service a long time.

Is their a way to tell if the speedo has rolled over ? It reads 29583.3 .

That should be about right, that is the average of most of the 151's I see. Now the guns........................................ Can't say I ever saw a setup like that before!

Well, . The gun mount is a XM1919a4. I know ? its just my idea !

Started the right side. A Little more work than the left. Ya think ?
