Aberdeen and Findlay shows same week in 2015?

Unread post by lpcoating » September 14th, 2014, 9:10 pm

I saw this posted on the SS site. I went to the MVPA site and they have Aberdeen listed as May 14th - 16th, 2015 and Findlay listed as May 15th - 17th 2014. So, did they do a typo on the year for Findlay or did they copy this years date and post by accident? Rainman, I'll ask you! If they are during the same week I would go to Findlay. Much better interest in the M151 and much better facilities (not a parking lot). Only down side is it was about a 7 hour ride for me. Having said that, the show was worth the drive.

Interesting, I think that is a week later than usual for Aberdeen. I will need to check that out. I should be retired by then but if not it could be a problem.

If it is that weekend maybe they are trying to get away with it falling on the Mother's day weekend... Scott O&O

A Thurs-Sat show and Fri-Sun show same weekend 2015. Findlay is always
Armed Forces Day weekend, and Aberdeen is a week later than usual.
I have no reasons explanations, just dates.

One of the Ohio boys was going around at Gilbert promoting the Findlay show. I told him he didn't need to waste time talking to me as I already know where I will go - Findlay!!

I will probably still do Aberdeen as long as Cabell Garbee comes up and does his dinner thing. That is why I go any more. Just for the camaraderie and the dinner. If he decides not to go I will probably just stay home. It would be to long of a trip for me to go to Findley. I can't drive the long miles like I used to.

For many years, there was an agreement in place between the two clubs to not have conflicting dates. The Aberdeen show, when it was held on post was always in conjunction with Armed Forces Day weekend; the Findlay show was specifically set up by the Hancock/Wood County Veteran's groups as an Armed Forces Day celebration. Once the Aberdeen show was moved off post, the conflicting dates were worked out between the two groups as the East Coast Rally, was no longer geared towards Armed Forces Day. It was agreed upon that Findlay would always be an Armed Forces Day weekend event and the East Coast Rally would fall on the week earlier or the week later; until now.

I hate to say it, but it's becoming more evident every year that the Aberdeen meet is a dying event. If you've attended with regularity over the years, you've noticed more and more empty spaces with less and less people attending. Aberdeen is an expensive show to do for vendors. The Findlay show is more of what the roots of the hobby began as, an affordable show for all vendors. Over the years, the big shows have priced the ordinary guy tailgate vendor out of their venues. Findlay is an exception and a place where any vendor, large or small, can set up and sell and not break the bank going in.

I'll miss the Crab Cakes and camaraderie at Aberdeen, but I'll do just as well for far less expense at Findlay.

There was no comparison between Gilbert and Aberdeen this year and last.
Given the distance and cost I wonder if I will do it in 2015?
Maybe it will be Findley instead?

Just received the registration form for Aberdeen yesterday. Don't remember it coming out this early last year. Maybe they are trying to get a jump on the Findlay show? Anyway, it'll be a bummer not seeing some of you this year as I'll be going to Ohio... :(

Findlay would get my vote as well. Bummer that they are overlapping though, I was thinking it makes a good excuse for a rode trip through the South.

Well, I will be going to Aberdeen this year. We will be having the Southern pulled pork dinner again as usual. This will probably be my last year because I will be retiring and those kinds of expenditures will be out the window. I have heard the clubs price for the venue has dropped substantially but the vendor spaces have remained the same. 120.00 for three days just to hang out is more than I can justify after this year. I can go to Gilbert for 20.00! to camp. 80.00 for four days and dinner at the Virginia rally. Nope, Aberdeen is over for me after this year. I am lucky enough to be able to drive down for the day if I need something.

Never been to Findlay. It's the same distance and I don't have to drive through DC. I think I'm going to Findlay.
