M1061

Unread post by richard » November 25th, 2014, 7:42 pm

Well, this is not a trailer for a M151. But it could be a trailer to haul it behind my Deuce and a Half with the M151 loaded on it.

I was looking around to find some details and measurements. I found a TM describing this trailer but having no measurements.

Q1: Does somebody here have one or does somebody here knows a guy who owns one? I am interested in the weight (empty and loaded), measurement and especially the distance between the two wheel hubs. In Germany I am allowed to haul a trailer with two axles when the wheel hubs have a distance of less than 1 meter (39 3/8 inch). Then it is counting as a trailer with one axle. Otherwise I need a different driver license for truck drivers which I do not have at the moment and which costs a lot of money.

Q2: Can you use this trailer in combination with a M35A2 Deuce and a Half? From the TM I think "yes". But what are your experiences?

Q3: If not a M1061, what trailer do you use behind your M35A2 to have your M151 with you? And perhaps the M416, too?

I am also interested in the M1061, if I can put my M561 Gama Goat on it. This is a question of the length and what is allowed to load. I am also missing this kind of information.

Please let me know your answer, information, opinion, suggestion ...

This may help a little but the measurement between the axles will be tough. I think that using the pictures of the trailers on a M1061 Google search and then applying the known tire size and some geometry you should be able to come up with a close idea.

Note on the tire specification it says 12-16.5 tires but the wheels are 8.25-20. With a 5,000 lb. per tire rating I would bet on the 20's.

From the pictures I see it appears that the axles are spread apart pretty far, probably for unhitched stability and/or to keep the tongue weight down with a heavy load. It is a five ton trailer so it is a bit on the heavy side for a deuce. The trailer alone is heavy.

Rick,

Thank you. You're writing exactly what I thought. I think this is not the right trailer.

That brings me back to question #3 in my post. Which trailer will suit my Deuce to transport my M151?

I am thinking that a smaller tandem axle car trailer would be best and that would most likely release you from the truck license bit. You would just need to add a drop down hitch for the deuce, I have seen a lot of those. How heavy is the Goat? Most car trailers over here are rated at 7,000 lbs. gross weight. Figure the trailer is about 1200 lbs. so you can carry 5800 lbs. max.. You can get heavier trailers but the price goes up fast. Just looking at pictures and videos over the years it is obvious that trailers are built a little different over there so I really can't say too much about it.
