Finally found the body tag

Unread post by Bryan45 » April 15th, 2015, 1:17 pm

I've owned this M151A1 for 12 years now, looked all over it for a body tag, but no luck. Apparently I didn't look hard enough. :) My M151 has the 100A generator, so the tag was hiding behind the cable.

While I was in there, I snapped a pic of the engine tag too. Any guesses as to if it's original for a April '67 Ford?

And one of the front. It runs real well for a 48 year old jeep.

Bryan,
BUDD 52749 would have been built under Ford Contract DA20-113-AMC-07507-(T)-(MYP) and it would have been delivered around April 1967. If you have the dash dataplate, it should be in the "2N"-series, somewhere around 2N 9xxx. Please let me know for my records. You'll be pleased to know that your engine was built under the associated contract for engines....DA20-113-AMC-07506-(T)-(MYP) so there's every likelihood it is the original motor.

Does this help?
Ken
Kind regards....
Ken

Data plate shows 4/67 delivery and 2N 9283.

The underside of the hood is also stenciled 2N 9283, so at the very least, they've been together for quite some time.

Two piece windshield, vacuum wipers, A1 steering wheel.

Thanks for the info, Ken.

That is not the original paint, I don't think they had that paint scheme in 67. The original numbers would have been stenciled on the side of the hood and I would guess they are still there if you sanded very carefully. You might also find the original unit numbers on the bumper and rear bumperettes.

Rick, when I bought it, there were faint ARNG markings on the desert camo bumpers. Some of that desert camo has worn away over the years and now a little green and tiny bit of white is showing through, but not enough to read anything.

I changed transmission lube and diff lube tonight, the underside is still mostly semi gloss OD. There's a little OD showing through here andd there too, but since I'm pretty sure it came out of the service with this paint job, I'm hesitant restore for now. Plus, I really like these colors.

Here's another one. I love the skull and crossbones on the dash.

Restoring it would rip out its soul. Looks perfect as it is!

It had a hard top kit on it when I bought it, that the previous owner admittedly added. It was green and looked out of place on the 4 color desert M151. So I pulled it all off and sold it. Of course, it left about eleventy-billion holes drilled around the body. I had those welded up a few years ago along with the one and only spot of rust through the frame cross member on the underside and touched it up with Krylon flat desert tan paint. The passenger side cross member is rusted out now, I need to have the same procedure done to it. It's only about 6" long, so it won't be too bad of surgery.
