Let me know what you'd like to see and I can get photos. Not much there; I picked it up at the same time as a donor vehicle but suspension is about all that's there. If someone can do something with it I'm open to discussing, but it's definitely way beyond my capabilities to bring that one back.

Ken,

Thanks for the info. I'll check my own A2 for the body tag, then pull the spare and look at the boss for anything that might be there. The previous owner had a data plate made, and the jeep has a few layers of paint that might conceal any registration numbers on the hood.

I like a good mystery.

Ken,

I am a little confused now. My 151 has all signs of being build 1972 as everything with a date code and casting date shows 1972. It has the side drains you are mentioning but you are saying those only appeared 1973?

Pretty sure the engine shows a 71 contract date but I need to check tonight. The contract where you find the re-enforcement plates at the rear differential. No body tag but that number behind the spare. And of course pre-emission.

6 89 ?

So far only other numbers found are on the top of the windshield:

Main one is part number for the windshield, but the others I have no idea. Could be lot numbers for the windshield? Or could they specify the vehicle it went to somehow?

Ya' got a nice one there. I also have an early AMG pre emissions jeep, LOVE IT! ( oh, mine didn't have the data tag in the drivers foot well)

Hello Horst,
1. Yours may well be a 1972 and it could be one of the first batch of A2s modified with the side-drains. I was told that the side-drains were introduced from the beginning of 1973 but of course there could have been deliveries earlier... Oct-Nov-Dec 1972..... and I don't have enough information from owners of early AMG A2s to be absolutely precise. It isn't an exact science! For example, Ford officially delivered their first A2 in 1970 but I have photos of Ford A2s with hood numbers showing a 1968 date. These were actually test vehicles, delivered to the US Army in 1968 for type-approval but unlike other test vehicles, these were given US Army registration numbers, not "X" prefixes like the XM-151 test vehicles.

2. ALL of the 1971-Contract AM General A2s were eligible for the differential reinforcements....but not all vehicles needed the brackets. Although the safety messages did not specify the exact batch of vehicles needing modification, I would assume that before this contract ended, some improvement to the mounting of the diff took place at the factory.

Regards as always.....
Ken

EXA, the numbers on the underside of the hood.....
19207 is the FSCM (Federal Supply Code for Manufacturers)
11639652 is the Part Number for an A2 windshield.

I can't make out the other numbers clearly. It looks like MFG No xxxxx, probably a windshield production number for quality control.

Ken,

The above exchanges have caused me to research my truck a little more. The previous owner had it registered as a 1970, I believe to negate the smog requirements of California, while I believe it to be more of a 73-74 model.

I located the stamped body tag in the drivers foot well. It has two lines of numbers. First is "11639700".

The second line is a mix of l;etters/numerals. "BI5I-10580". Being a member of the M151 family, I'll guess that the first four characters refer to the M151 series, while the items after the dash are the individual serial numbers. The I5I characters appear as straight vertical lines, like capital "I",but the number "1" after the dash has the distinctive upper portion so that it is a solid number one. Since the characters are mixrd ("I" and "1" on the same line), I'm nut sure which is correct.

Any background on correlating year group or possible serial number (hood number) for the truck? I'll upload a photo of the tag when I can.

Jim, it's definitely not a 1970. AMG didn't have the contract then (Ford did).

This is what your plate will look like (except this is from a "C"-series). The 11639700 and the B151 or C151 are pre-stamped into the plate. Someone from AMG's inspection/quality control stamped the actual tub number after the B151 using a punch set.. The digits are all "ones", not "eyes".

Image

I only have one "B151" number and that is B151-11283 but unfortunately, the owner of that vehicle had no dash dataplate nor hood number, nor any other identifying data. That vehicle is 700 away from yours. If it had its dash plate or hood number, we could have extrapolated a likely hood number for you, but without that information, it can't be done. I don't have any "A"-series either, but this could be due to the A-series tag being on the spare wheel boss instead of on a footwell tag. Assuming that it is the body number, of course!

Ken,

Copies of the dash tag and the footwell tag. I know the dash one is bogus, or at least not original, but I cannot attribute the imprinted serial number to anything solid.
