Larry,
Any pics of the original Aussie version of this Jeep?
Would love to see how it looks.

Hi Phil, I was sent a picture of an Australian M151A2 that was right hand drive a year ago. I may have deleted the E-Mail but I will look and see if I can find it.

Would like to see it if you can.
Especially intersted how they handled the steering , box and controls.
Your posting and Silvios article really tweaked my interest.
Were the Aussie A2s actually modified by AMG or in the field?
In any event cant wait to see yours next summer at Weare.

Hi Phil, The story i was told was that the A2's were modified by the Australians in Australia. I have not been able to verify that through a second source so for what it is worth that is all I have. True or not this has been a fun project to complete. I look forward to bringing it to a few rally's to see the reaction of my fellow collectors when they see it. I also think it will be fun to drive it around Weare on all the back roads on nice days. Ill need someone to teach me how to drive right sided.

I have had no luck finding the pictures of the Australian jeep that was sent to me last year. I know it is on the hard drive of my old laptop that died last fall. I don't know if that file can be rescued form the dead hard drive or not.

Larry

Best I can suggest is that you contact the SASR museum and tell them of your project. They should be able to tell you about any use of the MUT by SASR in Vietnam. Their web site is http://www.australiansas.com/SASHF.html

I must say I have never heard of MUTTs being used in Australia by Australian Forces but that does not mean it did not occur. Will be interested in what you discover.

Good luck with your project.

Joe, It might have been cheaper for your friend to move to Queensland where he could register a left hand drive MUTT :?

Why can't you register a left hand drive vehicle? Is that a problem anywhere else that they use right hand drive?

Normally not allowed in Australia but there are exceptions. Vehicle registrations are a State issue so there are variations. I think it is a safety issue because of visibility. I don't know about other countries but I suspect it is the same.

At the moment I am in Thailand and have never seen a left hand drive in any of my visits.

Joe that mutt your friend converted to right hand drive may be the one my friend Phil sent to me. Phil said he had saved the picture and he would folward it to me. When he does I will post it here. Hope someone can shed some light on this mystery for us.
