A Typical English Sunday ?

Unread post by muttguru » October 19th, 2015, 2:16 pm

Well, maybe not. But 70+ years ago, this is how it would have looked. Every year in October, for a Friday, Saturday and Sunday, the picturesque market village of Pickering in North Yorkshire goes back to the last century for a 1940's weekend.
Amost everyone in the village gets dressed up in 1940's clothes and WWII jeeps and trucks (no mutts allowed) arrive to wake up the sleepy centre. Everyone has a fun time and even young people (yes, EVERYONE looks young to me) join in with the fashion of the '40s.
The antique clothing vendors do a roaring trade, and so do the innumerable tearooms and pubs.
I took a few photos of the event, hope you enjoy them........
Ken

well, they don't want to see a M151, understood. But at least one M201 slipped through the process of allowing WW2 only vehicles...

I can't help but laugh like crazy at that convoy lined up behind the tea wagon...
A lot of nice jeeps there, but that tea wagon is a hoot... I guess if it were over here they'd be lined up behind the beer truck (marked appropriately "water buffalo" of coarse). But maybe they already thought of that with the tea wagon too...

Great pics, THANKS!!

As a Yank, I do have to ask: In the fourth picture from the top, there is a store sign which reads, "PICKERING GUNS".

Is that an actual firearms store, or something else? I understood that personal firearm ownership in GB was not prevalent.

Best Regards,

We do have the odd gun shop but its nothing that you guys would recognise.

Normally high end shot guns and not much else
