M151A2 1978 restoration

Unread post by elmer » February 22nd, 2016, 8:53 am

Hello everybody from Spain,
Finally, two months ago and after reading your opinions in a old topic that I posted called "markings for tan´sand-desert colour" , about my doubts about what color to paint my mutt , I decided to paint it in color tan / desert.
I bought the M151 A2 a friend of mine .He had bought it in Portugal, and It had belonged to the army of these country. It was delivered in 1978 to the Portuguese marines.
My friend is restoring it to me and now that the project is already well advanced, I would like to share it with you and ask you for advice .
I hope you like it and forgive my English because it is not very good.
Cheers

Here I attached some photographs of project

I really like the more appropriate markings by the year of manufacture and the color chosen and that although it was difficult to choose them for that combination .I bought it in USA after the fantastic tips of Ken.
Thanks Ken.Yours tips were...

US ARMY

3. On the front bumper, stencil a black 5-point star. Size 2"

4. On the rear panel, next to the towing hook, stencil a black 5-point star. Size 2"

5. On each side of the windshield, on the sloping panels, stencil a black 5-point star. Size 6"

6. On each side of the body, just forward of the rear wheel, stencil a black 5-point star. Size 6"

7. On the driver's side, under the doorway, in line with the fuel tank, stencil the following words:-
CAUTION: DO NOT OVERFILL:
ALLOW FOR EXPANSION
Letter size 1"

8. Above each wheel, on the wheel arch, stencil TP-20 in black, size 1"

9. Underside of the hood. Stencil the following. IN WHITE LETTERS:-
WARNING: SECURE HOOD IN RAISED POSITION
WITH SAFETY HOOK BEFORE SERVICING ENGINE
Letter size 1"

10. On top of the hood. Stencil a black 5-point star, size 12", point faces forward. Located close to the front edge of the hood.

Looks great in that colour. Nice job bringing it back to life. Wish I had the energy to completely disassemble and paint too!

The one photo I really wanted to see did not come through, the interior. It looks fantastic. Are you using an old straight 151 stye emergency brake in it? That was why I wanted to see the interior pic, it looked like the old style brake handle in the other pics.
