Willys M151 Project
Starting today on what I believe is a 1963 Willys Motor Co. M151 with 12,389.2 on the odo showing.
Contract No. DA-33-019-ORD-3941
Manf. Serial No. 7405-13721
Shes rough with some hack wiring put in but hoping to do a "Motor Pool" restoration on it. (Not museum quality but parade/ drive-able still look great and function)
I will post some photos tonight and will try to document this along the way. One to showcase and two for later reference for me and others. I take it the Willys made ones are kinda rare ish as I can not find much info on them?

Re: Willys M151 Project
Ken will be drooling all over that one. You have a lot of the original stuff on there. Don't see the Holley carb and the distributor has been modified but it has the right hood hold downs, air cleaner, windshield, E-brake and even the tranny tunnel looks different. Even have the data plate and hood numbers!!!!!
I was going to make a comment when you said you have a "rareish" one and I was going to say a lot of people think that. Well.......................... you do!

Shes going back together as close to OE we can. After pulling the data plate she was green originally for sure. This will be a slower than the camo mutt deal. Right now I am trying to cut away all the homemade turn signal stuff and save the original harness as much as I can.
Re: Willys M151 Project
Indeed ! It's so rare to find a Willys with the original dataplate AND the hood number to match. This really adds to my research because although I have quite a few dataplates, I don't have many linked hood numbers. A real discovery would be to find the body-tag, too. Have you looked for it yet, JM ? I assume it's a Sept 1963 delivery?rickf wrote:Ken will be drooling all over that one. You have a lot of the original stuff on there. Rick, note the font style on the hood !

There is a data plate on the front passenger side frame horn by the vac pump. Is this is or can I find it else where? The one near teh fender I don't recall seeing numbers on it however.muttguru wrote:Indeed ! It's so rare to find a Willys with the original dataplate AND the hood number to match. Also it is a Spet Date. 9-63.
So does the hood have the correct numbers? How can I tell?

that is most likely the body tag. Here's what to do..............
Stand at the passenger side of the engine compartment. Look at the engine, just where the vacuum pump mounts to the block. Now look at the frame rail, exactly across from the pump. On the frame rail, there should be a wafer-thin, metal foil plate which is attached to the frame rail. Usually, this has been peeled off, but you'd be surprised as to how many are still there, covered with a few layers of paint.
You can remove the paint (carefully) by using acetone (nail varnish remover) on a rag and gently wiping the painted surface. Don't overdo it at one go, otherwise you'll end up taking the varnished details off the tag. Worth checking to see if it's still there.
Let us know what it says.....
Ken

Re: Willys M151 Project
Past week made some more progress on the mutt. Seems the brake line is routed different and the rear harness has been partially melted together. Managed to get it apart and try and salvage it.
Also Finished the other Mutt that was in. Owner picked it up. We made him a custom MG mount. Even after the bill he still gave me $100 bucks. He was very please I reckon!
And spent the day playing with Bigger objects. This FV-439 broke a torsion bar year ago. Started the repair process.

Re: Willys M151 Project
The transmission cover is the same as all the others. The parking brake is not the early onevening, it's the one found on most of the other m151a1 and a2s.rickf wrote:Ken will be drooling all over that one. You have a lot of the original stuff on there. Looks like a nice mutt. Good luck with the project.

The tunnel just looked different from the rear angle, I see now that he has it out that the brake is the newer style. BUT it DOES have the old flat top air cleaner. At least I got that right!

Re: Willys M151 Project
Got some replacement panels in today. A Door and Trans cover. I had told my boss about Guys panels and apparently he listened!
I have to say they look way better in person than any of the photo I've seen. Good Just Man!
