Problem with an Antenna
Ok, so I finally got my Mutt on the road and I've got an antenna spring mounted to a sugar-scoop. That's all I've had for almost a year now. I finally got a whip antenna, big long thing, but the base is smaller than the threads on the spring. Is there an adapter I need or am I simply trying to match up the wrong parts?

Re: Problem with an Antenna
Need a little more information. When you say a spring mounted on the sugar scoop do you mean a tuning unit with a spring on top? Is this connected to an RT524 or AM 2060 or what?

Re: Problem with an Antenna
There were quite a few radio setups with the corresponding antennas, many of which were different so if you have a radio you want the right antenna.

OK we need more info, on the bottom of the base that is mounted on the sugar scoop is there one connection or two, it sounds like you have a MX-6707 tuneable base and Sincgar Antenna Sections... Scott O&O

Re: Problem with an Antenna
OK, I took pictures of what I've got, maybe someone can now help me. Oh, I do not have a radio other than my CB and don't plan to get one as of yet. The antenna, for now, is just for looks.

Re: Problem with an Antenna
That appears to be a base for a newer Sincgars antenna. The 97 contract says it is much newer than the older MX-6707. I am sure Miljeep will chime in with the correct info. The base you need will be the MX-6707.

Re: Problem with an Antenna
Yup, Ricks right thats a Sincgars Base and you need the MX-6707 tunable base for the antenna sections to match....

Re: Problem with an Antenna
So, I either need to find a different base or a different antenna? What I have now cannot be matched to each other. Antennas seem to be harder to find so I guess I'm looking for a new base and spring. MX-6707, to be exact?

Re: Problem with an Antenna
Yup, and they are not that hard to find at shows. Finding a known working one can be a little harder but there are many of them out there.

Re: Problem with an Antenna
The base you have will work. The difference between that and the MX6707 is that yours is broadband, i.e., it does not need tuning, which is why there is only the antenna connection on the bottom. If you are not worried about maximum performance and can get the right antenna elements at the right price then stay with it.
These were introduced as the MX6707 could not stay in tune for the frequency hopping radios. While they solve that problem they are not as efficient as the MX6707. Your base will be desired by mil radio collectors or HMMV owners with Sincgars radios. Not sure of their availability in the US but if they are hard to find coukd fetch a good price. Just advertise where you find the right people.

Re: Problem with an Antenna
If you intend to use the MX-6707 base, the antenna that matches it consistes of two sections, the upper section is the AT-1095 and the lower section is the AS-1730 and when the two are combined, the whole antenna is designated AS-1729.Bucolic wrote:So, I either need to find a different base or a different antenna? For safety, you will also need the antenna tiedown (NSN 5820-00-908-6416) and the large ball-tip (NSN 5820-00-473-2353).

Re: Problem with an Antenna
Bucolic,
I can help you locate the correct mount you need at the Petaluma show. The mount you need is obtainable at almost every show. If your not planing to use the mount you have now, you can use it towards a trade.
When you come by my house I can show you the "ball tip" and tie down setup Ken mentioned.
Your always welcome to give me a call and I can help you sort it out.
