Thanks everyone!
Okay I missed something on the generator, is mine a 60 amp? I only have the 2 grove pulley (It is missing a chunk and I need a new one) I have a NOS 2 belt matched set to install when I get a new pulley. The extra powerpack I have has the 3 grove pulley and is missing the generator. Thanks for telling me about the diameter difference, I was going to use it.

I unpacked the fording kit today and then looked at the directions in the TM. The kit does not have the master cylinder cap and vent. The packing list does not show those parts. I have an extra cap, is the cap just drilled and tapped for the vent line?
Also I need to find a later model air intake cap because mine is the wire mesh style.

I tried to take off the rear shackle mounts under the bumperettes but I can not get to the back side with a wrench or socket worth a darn. Looks like I will torch them off.

Weld nuts...rough day with weld nuts. Its great unless they break :(

Gas tank:
I removed it and took off the access cover. What a rusty sludge filled mess inside. The fuel smells like turpentine. The tank does not leak so I was thing about going the POR 15 fuel tank clean, etch and seal route. I cant find anyone local who chem dips and seals. Any I deas?

I am ordering rolls of steel brake, vent and fuel line and I will form my own. The existing vent lines are copper and have been abused. A previous owner ran all rubber fuel line so that got yanked out today too.\

I removed the wiring harnesses front and rear leaving the generator to regulator intact (It is in good shape)

I will keep yall posted on progress.

If you have a regulator mounted to the cowl connected to the generator then it is a 25 amp, not a 60 amp, and should have the 2 belt system. When you pulled out the rear wiring harness i certainly hope you used the old harness to pull a nylon pull line or a wire through the channel as the harness came out. If not you are going to have a nightmare of a time getting the new harness in the rear.

One thing you need to learn with this vehicle is patience. You need to spray all bolts that you plan to remove days ahead of time with Kriol or PB Blaster and several times leading up to the day of removal and then you need to take your time in removing the bolts. Nothing is going to come off easy on a 52 year old rusty vehicle but if you torch of those bolts how do you plan to replace them? Think about that. That mesh air intake is a fairly rare item so treat it that way. Someone will be glad to get hold of it.

Gas tank, no matter what the coating the tank has to be spotlessly clean first which means you need to get all the crap out of it. Acetone, mineral spirits, lacquer thinner. Once it is cleaned you may find it has pinholes in it, that is common. the sealer will take care of them.

Rick,
Thank you! I had clipped the ends off but have not pulled it through yet. I will use the rope trick for sure.
I spent about an hour today using the hammer and dolly to bump some dents.
I picked up the POR 15 gas tank kit today and hopefully will be able to clean, etch and seal it this weekend.
I pulled the carb today and plan on rebuilding it this weekend as well. I have rebuilt carbs before. Anything I need to know about the Zenith? :?:
Thanks,
Andy

Be especially vigilant about cleaning the idle passages. Go from the throat of the carb back with the cleaner and air to blow any crap out the way it went in. Be very careful not to lose the tiny gasket that is on the idle transfer tube that will drop out of the bowl. The gasket is on the tube side between the tube flange and the bowl. If it does not come out on the tube look for it in the hole. That gasket does NOT come in the kit. Check the play in throttle shaft since these tended to wear out quickly, if it is too bad the carb will need to be replaced. If you have a large rebuild kit you will have the throttle shaft seals, if you have the small kit you will only have the basic gaskets and accelerator pump.

Thanks Rick!
I do have the large kit. I appreciate the advice.
I started to clean out the gas tank today using POR 15 degreaser/cleaner mixed with very hot water.
Here is the sludge I was able to scrape off in the tank. The baffle prevented me from getting the whole tank. The varnish was at least an inch thick!

I am not sure what to do about the other side. I have the tank full of the degreaser and am letting it soak but I am worried that it will not totally clean out. I am thinking about cutting the bottom of the tank off, cleaning everything and then welding it back together.

Put a bunch of small stones in it with the cleaning solution and bunji it to a cement mixer if you have one of something that will turn it for a while. The stones with get all around in there and knock everything loose. Jack up a car and bunji it to a drive wheel. This might be best done out of sight of the public.        They tend not to understand the ways of the hillbilly. Whatever it is it has to turn slow enough for the stones to rattle around in there.

Don't be surprised if when you are done the tank is self draining. That is a LOT of rust and it came from somewhere. You may need a new tank if it is too bad.

I do not know where all the rust has come from. So far the tank is solid. The very top of the baffle has some rust through.
It looks like someone drained a parts washer in the tank. It smells worse than it looks
I was not able to work on it today but I should have some time tomorrow

I posted in the wanted section but I will throw it out here as well:
I am looking for a 2 groove fan pulley to buy or I have a 3 groove I will trade
Thanks

Hi Andy,
wow what u got out of this tank is pretty amazing lol , attaching here a link  viewtopic.php?f=3&t=8627&hilit=tnemec#p72959 to the thread i posted about my fuel tank repair ,

what i do advise from my little experience is after taking the massive "slugg" out of the tank fill it with rust-remover+ ten times water and let it rest for a day or two,
after that if u have left only a bit of surface rust try ti scarp it with scothbright and 50\50 diesel and petrol, it should do the trick.

personally i coated the tank from the inside with an epoxy based material designed for chemicals mega-tanks.

hope i helped,

Eyal
