I'd like to take credit for that idea.... but last year, while visiting my son at Ft Lewis, I went to the Ft Lewis military museum. They had an M151A1 that had been a commanding generals vehicle that had the ammo can between the seats. I found several of the correct size (for 40mm ammo), on eBay, and have put them on the last four vehicles I've restored.

The one in the museum appeared to be from the 70s. They had 3 or4 more rough ones back under a roof in their storage area. One had holes there, which appeart to be to mount the ammo can.

I have on in my encore. It's great.

Upsized the one in my Jeep to a 20 MM can
The extra size and height is great!
