Well Rick, you have some work ahead of you. But I assume these M37 are very easy to work with, it just needs more paint than our little jeeps. Looks like a really nice project. So there are NOS fenders coming with it?

Re: Well, I bought another green thing.
Yep, NEW fenders and a NEW tailgate. The nice thing about these is all the body parts BOLT ON! Even the bed is all bolted together in sections. Now on the other hand, The throttle linkage is a sight to behold, I would love to know what mechanical engineer thought this one up. I think they used every theory available in mechanical engineering to get the foot motion to the carburetor! The brake pedal to master cylinder was designed by the same engineer. The master cylinder is under the drivers floor even though there is a ton of room out front.
I think the plan is going to be a motor pool restoration for this summer so I can drive it and gather the parts for a complete body off restoration over the winter. I can go out now and hit the starter and it fires off in less than a full crank of the engine, and that is on gas that came from the 151 from back in September of last year. The brake pedal just hits the floor so I plan on replacing all of the brake system. The bed will get a piece of plywood for the summer and come off in the fall.
Point of interest Horst, The entire windshield assembly is the same as the deuce.

Because of those big 9:00X16 tires they ride rather nice, float over speed bumps and dips in the road. It's no speed demon with cruising speeds around 45-50mph. I had the higher speed gears in my WC51 and it would get up to 60 or so w/o the engine straining. Also had the disc brake kit fore & aft on that truck. I miss that 'ol girl.... .

Interesting, I did not know that. BTW, on the deuce, the master cylinder is also at a similar location. But in case of the deuce it is right next to the airpack. I had replace both just a few months ago on a M49...rickf wrote:

Re: Well, I bought another green thing.
I had an M43 I restored(ambulance version of the M37) and the governor on the motor kicks in around 47 mph. That was the main reason I sold it. I couldn't highway drive it. There are ways to modify the drivetrain to get the extra speed but its a pricey project and kills the originality. Plus, as Rick has found, those motors when stock love to run and they run well even in bad condition!

Re: Well, I bought another green thing.
we had one at in HQ at our base It was assigned to the radar unit.
It took all you could give it plus go just about any place the mutts would go.
It did a ton of work and held up very well. next to our mutts it's one of my favorite,s

I started doing some body work on it and it certainly is not as easy as the 151. It is all compound curves around the cowl area and all the metal has to be hand formed. Very time consuming.

Re: Well, I bought another green thing.
Not yet. I think I am going to spot weld these patches in on the cowl. Time to break out the old Lenco!

Re: Well, I bought another green thing.
Preliminary cowl repair. Here are the repair panels I have fabricated so far. I was going to cut out the cowl and butt weld these into it but I decided to lay them over and spot weld instead so that I increase the strength of the hinge area. The support behind the cowl panel that holds the inner part of the hinge bolt is pretty much gone and replacing that would entail replacing most of the cowl. I am NOT getting that far into it I am also going to fabricate another panel that till go inside of the lower panel and be spotted on there to add strength to the lower part of the hinge and then the two flanges that protrude inside at the joint will be attached with stainless screws inside the vehicle. The weld areas will all be painted with weld through primer. There will be some bondo involved to blend in the new panels but I will have to live with that. I was always taught NO BONDO!
These panels are just laying there for now, they are not attached.

Yep, my 1952 has the same rust going on that part of the cowl. Once I clear out all the rust I am sure it will be the same. Alan
