Tran Access Cover ?
What would be a good substitute for the 7331772 gasket on the bottom of the access cover. PO used a white gooey rubber sealant and latex at some point but I'm thinking some form of weather stripping would work better. What have you used?

Re: Tran Access Cover ?
Frost King weather seal or similar works in a pinch. Available at Home Depot. Body caulk strips at most automotive paint suppliers. Neither is "correct", but either one works.

Maybe something like this, use 3M glue.

That is super cheap and easy and if it gets damaged you peel off the bad section and stick on a new piece.Hambone wrote:Maybe something like this, use 3M glue.

Re: Tran Access Cover ?
You mean we're supposed to put some sort of gasket in there?
What happens if you just bolt the cover on?

Two assumptions
1) another noise source
2) water coming through on rainy roads

And a LOT of heat blowing through, might be nice on an unheated truck in the winter till you hit a puddle and the heat turns to steam and then you can't see out the windows. Plus if you have an exhaust leak at the manifold as most of them do you have the carbon monoxide danger.

Re: Tran Access Cover ?
one modification to fight against noise and rattling is to cover the insight of the transmission cover with heavy duty damping mats. Michel Walter did this on his 151 and reported good results, I still need to do it (after the flex exhaust coupling recommended on this site). As we know, not only the differentials but also the transmission is quite noisy, specifically the transfer box.

Went with this despite Rick's hatred of Lowes. HD would have been another hour travel time.

Had just enough to lay two strips side by side except for narrow rear portion which is not wide enough to fit 2 anyway. Will see how it goes.
