Engine test on stand
I am almost complete with my engine currently cleaning and mounting the new distributor. The body isn't here and I would like to test it so I mounted it on a pallet with some wood and screws etc fairly stable and low to the ground
Question is how do I hook this up for testing?
I have what's left of the old wiring harness if needed but it was missing a lot to start with mutt didn't run when I got it and was missing parts.

to run a good, known engine on a stand, the only thing you need is 24V to the ignitor and apparently 24V to turn the starter motor.
In your case it is a little different. You want to monitor oil pressure and water temp, but at least oil pressure. If you don't want to hook up an electrical gauge to it, which is easy, one wire goes to the sender, the other wire of the gauge to the battery, you can also connect a mechanical gauge which probably is even more accurate.
If you have an alternator mounted, make sure it is connected to the battery otherwise it could fry the diodes. I would leave it off or just install a generator to run the belts.

Just leave all the wires off the alternator and that will be safe. You will need 24 volts of battery for starting, a jumper wire to a pigtail on the distributor wire for power to the distributor and that is it. Hook your ground cable from the batteries to a good ground on the engine and that can stay in place, your jumper for the ignition can be on the positive terminal of the batteries with a alligator clip and the starter can be jumped with a jumper cable, yes, there will be a few sparks. Alternative for starter is bolt a cable to starter and use that to touch the battery but I do not condone this because sparks at the battery can cause an explosion. That would be bad! Jump it at the starter but put the nut back in the starter terminal to protect the terminal. To shut it off just pull the wire off the distributor.

ASSUMING you put the oil pump in correctly you would pull out number one spark plug and turn the engine over until you feel compression pushing your finger out of the plug hole. The continue to turn it in that direction until the timing mark lines up and drop in the distributor with the number one plug position in the cap closest to the front of the engine and closest to the block and the rotor pointing to it. The the firing order around the cap in clockwise direction for the wires.

So that would be when the rotor pointing at the#1 plug position?

That would be correct, pointing at #1 while number one is on TDC on the compression stroke. The compression stroke is important. The timing line is actually 6 degrees BTDC but it is close enough for what you are doing here.

You can run it with the 2 batteries a set of jumper cables and a wire to the distributor, hook the ground to the block a wire plug into the distributor and hold the pos cable on the starter post until it starts,

Also is the starter cranking enough to get noticing each fuel pressure? I put my finger over the fuel pump and felt nothing

It would be a wise idea to install a mechancal oil pressure in order to monitor oil pessure.
Temp guate wire as the rignal is also a good idea.
Connect the tuel pump to a fuel source and crank the engine without power and observe flow from the ourput side.
F everything is order you should see gas coming out

Well no gas flow at all even after I tried to prime the fuel lines so I'm gonna get a new pump from the store via the civiy cross reference page if they have it in stock
The pump seems to leak at the diaphragm after I primed it so it's most likely trash
