Unread post by Evil Dr. Porkchop » October 17th, 2017, 11:00 am

Last month I brought home a new yard ornament and had to take a few pics with the a2.

I really think you brought home that MUTT just so you get us to ask you about the boat.

I've posted pics of the a2 before but I'm sure they're lost now due to photobucket. One of the reasons I bought it is I saw it before any work was done to it so I know exactly what it looks like underneath the paint and bodywork. Not perfect but it's solid.

Not sure the future of the boat, it doesn't look terrible but will need a lot of work to be operational. I couldn't resist buying it; I'm real close to the water but I don't even like boats. The 6-71 Detroit engine looks great, perhaps even rebuilt so I'm hopeful about that. I'm not sure if I'll have time to get it fixed up let alone the funds.

It's an LCVP but it's a post war model (1968). Fiberglass construction instead of wood like the WWII boats.

WWII LCVPs are quite rare now, although 20,000 were build. Plywood construction is definitely not the most durable option. But yours is still a very interesting one! Does it have its original engine?

The engine is the correct one, not sure if it's original to the boat or not but it looks nice and turns over by hand. The boat also has the prop shaft, the prop is in good shape, the rudder is there, etc. It's a fairly simple design with just the basics to make it an operational vessel.
