Where are you going to find a 12 volt coil for these M series distributors? Or is it the same as the older ones?

The gauge sender is nothing more than a resistor so it may work with a 12 volt gauge. The bulbs are actually cheaper than the 24 volt versions. Gauges are no big deal. you can find gauges out there that are almost identical to the the originals and if you really want to get anal about having military gauges there are older 12 volt units. I'll bet I could change all of the gauges and all of the bulbs for close to the 200.00 price of that coil. A Chevy 10si alternator is a dime a dozen in the junkyard which leaves the starter and from what I hear Rapco is supposed to be getting some 12 volt starters in.

Ok that's what I was asking, is if you DO have to change all of that out. (Which you do). I was just curious because I figured you would, but wasn't sure. Makes sense. 12 volt is easier to come by, no doubt!

Most of the 24 volt stuff is readily available because they use it to this day. It is the ignition parts that for some reason nobody wants to make quality reproductions of. They are only hurting themselves because when they finally do make the good parts, and they will, nobody will buy them because of the reputation of the garbage they produced for years. It is not just M-151's that are suffering, it is ALL gasoline powered M series vehicles with the exception of the 800 series.

Allow me to interject a few things. First Disclousre I have worked with and worked for Matt Fox at QTM. You guys have seen some of my work with the cut away, camo, and willys m151. You should understand I take pride in my work.

First off, 357 miles on a coil no longer makes it new. Should they last longer than that sure. But most Military vehicles don't see 300+ miles in a year. Also, anymore can easily blame the coil instead of realizing that a condensor, points, or leaving the ign on for even 30 minutes can damage the coil and cause it to fail. I've killed several coils while working there by accidentally leaving ign on, NOS and the Chrome ones alike. Then Guessing a coil went bad and damaged the ignition control module to? That's just shooting in the dark at the duck you already killed and trying to kill some more.

I have found more than enough take out coils that were pulled from surplus dizzys that tested bad. I've thrown away enough to make you sick. The only two times I had issues with the chrome Coils from Matts stock was when I left the ignition on while figuring out some wiring.

And the biggest point, in his EBay listing he has stated the following in plain English.

"This is a brand new 24 volt coil. This will fit the M38, M38A1, M170, M151 series jeeps, M715, M37, and many other 24 volt military trucks. We have been using these on our M-series builds and have had really good service from them. I don't sell something that I don't use myself. We have sold well over 300 of these plus we are very reasonably priced. These are electrical items and we do not take returns if you melt one down or fry one from incorrect wiring, incorrect instillation, or you leave the switch on which is normally the reason. QTM Parts

Note: Our source for these claims they are US contract over runs. They come boxed in a bulk with part numbers and such on the box. I have used the China ones and the past and these are way heavier and work much better. I can't claim for sure where these are made or if they are actually US contract but I have had really good service from them. There are no part numbers on the coils."

Notice he does not 100% claim these are us contract but am told by his source they are. His sources do change from time to time when the supply runs out. I want to say he use to sell the NOS or take outs but because they were a crapshoot rather or not they were good or even going to last and people whining when they didnt (you know, 30+ year old parts and stuff) he stopped pushing them and saved a few from testing or threw them away.

I see alot of MV owners bashing the people who supply parts no matter who it is. Finding sources of NOS parts is getting harder and harder to do and requires years of connections to make happen. So unless you can make a box of 100% tested working guaranteed for 500 miles plus NOS Coils appear out of the dark, I suggest try thinking about the logistics of MV parts supplies and not make a XXXX Supplier bashing thread. Specially when you state replacing a different part fixed the issue.
