everything is in the manual (TM). There is no better info available. You need the -34 manual and you find it in our manual section for download. These manuals are very good, step by step and easy to follow, you should still know how to hold a wrench. I did rebuild my 151 engine following the manual, these are pretty simple engines to begin with.

Originally, I was going to scrap this engine. It is locked up. But, when I took the oil pan off (had a hole in it) I could not believe my eyes...It has never run and looks brand new from top to bottom.
Upon pulling the valve cover off, I confirmed this, BUT... it looks like who ever put this engine together was in a rush and most of the pushrods where not connected to the valve springs.
So, I pulled the plugs and whoops, one of them was rusted bad.
Looks like one cylinder got water in it and I was hoping to just hone that cylinder out.
BTW, with no plugs in it, no Dist and 4 pushrods removed, lots of Slick 50, WD-40, mystery oil....It still won't turn over.....EEERRRR

Entirely disassembling it should not cost you a lot of time. This way you can really check the crank and rod bearings. Takes you probably not more than an hour. When I did mine, it did not remove the intake and exhaust manifold from the head. There is some likelihood to strip bolts and I did not want to mess with sealing the exhaust manifold. But in my case I did know that there were no leaks. So in any case, that is the area I have the most respect for, specifically if it is an old style head. Everything else should come apart easily.

Yeah, I hate to scrap any worthwhile engine that is worth saving. However....I wonder if it's worth the time and money. Seems nobody is wanting these engines. Running or not...

I see people looking for these engines every day. Pull the head, like Horst said leave the intake and exhaust on it to save time and lost parts. You are going to find a rusty cylinder I am sure, maybe even a mouse house on top of the piston. Get down in the cylinder with a wire wheel on a drill and get as much of the rust as you can and then you can pry at the teeth on the flywheel with a big screwdriver against a bolt in one of the holes in the block. back and forth and sooner or later it will start to move. More Kroil or PB and keep working it back and forth and soon you will be able to turn it over. It is unlikely that a hone will clean it up but if the rings did not break it may run. I have one that had two real bad cylinders and one more that was iffy. I git it turning and I am going to spray the original head gasket with copper and put it right back on and bolt it down and try it. I have a thread on it here somewhere. I am almost caught up on other jobs so that will be going in soon.

My Mutt's engine was the first engine I ever rebuilt. As mentioned, the Tech Manual tells you everything to do. It was a slow but fairly easy process. Just take your time and double check your work as you go. Be detail oriented.

Well, I pulled the head. The head needs machined and cleaned up. The top part of the pistons/cylinders MAY be okay. (the jury is still out on this)..I am getting the engine to move a inch (if that) I will take my time on this process.
Someone really did a shitty redneck job putting this engine together. I guess I am going to go deep into this engine. I don't trust any bearings in it AND, GUESS What...No head gasket was on it and the exhaust and intake had no gaskets either (with bolts missing)....Who would do this ???? EEERRRRR

Someone who took it apart to see what it was and put it back together so as not to lose the parts. I do it all the time.

Nah, I never get rid of anything. Ask Horst, He was just here and saw all my junk. Want a small block Chevy? I have several, a couple just like you described, minus the rust. I spray them down with Fluid Film before putting them back together.
