Graves Mountain Rally, Syria VA August 31-September 4, 2017
9th Annual Graves Mountain Military Vehicle and Vintage 4x4 Trail Rides!
Labor Day Weekend
August 31-September 4, 2017
At the historic Graves Mountain Lodge in Syria, Virginia.
It's time for me to start the thread for the annual gathering so that everyone can start planning and get time off from work, etc.
We'll basically have the same schedule and activities as in the past, but with a few more trails (five ton and quarter ton friendly) up on the mountain and, hopefully, a few extra guides so that we can run more convoys and trailrides at the same time each day.
I've NOT sent updated info to my webmaster so the website still shows info for last year... (Sent info to Amnon on May 23, 2017)
Chuck (BMan) is thinking about the t-shirt design...
The flyer and registration form will be done soon. (Done and sent to webmaster on May 23, 2017)
Need to update the "rules" page on the website...
Event website (with last year's dates): http://www.gravesmountaintrailrides.com
Hope to see a bunch of you in the beautiful mountains of Virginia this fall!

Ran into these videos today and was reminded that Karl is hoping to bring the halftrack again this year...

The shirt order was placed this afternoon... We'll have plenty of them for those of you who attend... Chuck's done a great job with the design again this year...
Also, speaking of shirts, Rick Sultan of http://dodgepowerwagongear.com/is donating a box of swag for us to use as prizes for the Saturday afternoon truck games, etc...
Just a reminder, or a plea, to get your registration forms in so that we can ensure that we have everything ready for when you arrive...and so that you can save a few bucks...

I know there is a prize for the first registration but what about the last? You know I have this reputation for being a bit er..................... tardy........................ on my forms. I had my doubts about making it this year due to medical problems with both the missus and I but reserve my spot as usual, I will be there.

I would have thought that getting your parking spot mowed, and providing an abundance of potable water would be prize enough...
However, I suspect that you will find that we will have a plethora of new categories for which one could obtain a prize since I have a "new" sponsor this year and thus, have more stuff to give away...
Seriously, it’s great to hear that we will be seeing you in a couple of weeks and we’ll ensure that your spot is ready and that Chuck has a blank registration form for you to fill out….

Registration has been sent and should already be in your mailbox. Still thrashing on equipment as usual. PLUS, I have to make a side trip after the rally to someone you have been pestering to go to get M37 stuff. He is in Richmond. Bruce Clark. I tried to talk him into going but no go.

It's hard to get folks in Richmond to go west of the fall line... They think that they are going into the wilderness and will have no cell phone or internet connection or something...
Of course, they are right...that's one of the bonuses of the event location IMHO.

I will never forget the first one, people standing on top of their trucks holding their devices above their heads looking for signals. Laughed my ass off!

For those of you attending the Graves Mountain Trailrides and Rally next week in Virginia:
Time for two really big reminders!
We do NOT have gas/fuel at the Syria Mercantile... Closest place to put go juice in your MV is in Madison, so make sure that you fill up the tanks and jerry cans on the way in...
We do NOT have cell phone coverage in the area (ok, we do up on top of the mountain and in some spotty locations, but just plan on not having a signal).
We do have internet via WIFI at the Lodge, Syria Mercantile, etc. It can get slow...
If you have an emergency and somebody needs to get word to you, have them call the Lodge office and they will relay it down to Chuck in the HQ tent. The nature of the emergency will have an effect on how fast the message gets down the hill and to you...

It's been a while, but I just got around to posting all the photos that I could find from the event onto Flickr...
To see them, go to:

If you have any that you would like to share, please post them or send them directly to me...
Since Rick mentioned the cold, wet, conditions...I have promised to pay the "sun" bill in advance next year...
