That distributor uses standard plug wires and standard plugs.

Anyway, how did you clean up the head/valves. I am sure they were rusty too ???

Tapped each one with a plastic mallet a couple times to make sure it opened and closed. Good enough for me. I am not holding out a lot of high expectations for this engine. If it starts then I will put a radiator on it and let it run for a while and see what happens. You do not always have to rebuild an engine just because it is old, sometimes just running it and changing the oil is good enough. It is not something I would sell without a disclaimer but it is something I would put in mine and run it.
At this point I am not even putting a new head gasket on it, just cleaning up the old one and spraying it with Ultra Copper and bolting the head on. Why waste money on it if it is no good?

Rick and Horst. On the head valves, 4 of them have small metal caps. I have found several just laying under the valve cover. This seems like a PITA.

Only 2 photos that survived, somewhere I have a few of the 151 I cut the parts out of. This was in the late 70s, it was a rollover.

Dan does everything the hard way. It would have been SO much easier to just drop that body on a Jeep CJ frame. The wheelbase was probably pretty close to the same.

Go Rick, I like the way you think on old engines. People are dumb founded the way some of the old engines I have worked on seem to run good.I always called it, I oil fielded that one. We used peanut butter one time on a 151 head gasket we couldn't get to seal out in the field. Had the head off three or four times and ran out of options. Far as we knew it kept running. Believe me we didn't say a word and is anybody watching? That was one of those , keep your mouth shut.
