Found on eBay.... Not mine!

Unread post by Vzike » February 2nd, 2018, 11:14 am

Here is one that we've not seen... a 1970 M1 5/A-1 Jeep, that is a Vietnam return... .the guy has pictures to prove it!

https://www.ebay.com/itm/1970-M-1-5-A-1 ... -0&vxp=mtr

Let the games begin!!!!

He repeats the M1 5/A-1 designation in an M416 trailer he is selling. Clearly is not schooled on these trucks.

First and foremost there is no such thing as a 1970 A1! So I would love to see those pictures and I would also like to see a close up of that data plate.

hood numbers 2N9286. claims it was from 545th MPs, but i see no evidence that a siren or red light was on the fenders, though the holes could have been filled in. bumper says 1st Cav, and that's where the 545th was, so....

I am pretty sure no 151's were brought back to this country. They were expendable and were left for the Arvins. I am sure I could find a picture of a 151 in country and then duplicate that vehicle here. Pretty hard to prove it was or was not there short of finding that lovely red mud everywhere and having it analyzed for location. And that stuff had an uncanny resemblance to the red clay in Georgia!

According to the records, 2N 9286 was a Ford-built M151A1, delivered April 1967. As the picture shows an A1, that could be the correct hood number but the only way to be sure is to get a look at the body-tag. The tag should be in the 52xxx-range to be correct.
It's definitely not an A2 :D I wonder where he got that from?

Kind regards....

He didn't say it was an A2, he said it was a 1970. I was the one that said it should have been an A2 IF it were a 1970. I am half tempted to respond to his ad and call his bluff but he may actually believe what he is saying.

Couldn't resist, here is the comment I sent the seller.

Just wanted to point out that they did not make a 1970 M-151A1 which is what that is. The A1 series ended in 1969. Also, they never brought them back from Vietnam, especially the A1's. They were all given to the Vietnamese Army. The hood numbers on that vehicle come back to a 1967 M-151A1.

You're tough, Rick... I mean, it does have an A2 windshield, so it must be an A2... right? The stencils are wrong. If it were a command vehicle, it would have radios.... No holes for the antenna or radio mounts... It is clearly a reassembled vehicle. The guy has several other MV for sale, including an M416.... that must have been the COs trailer....

Vin, It has the holes for the mounts on the passenger side fender, you can see daylight through them in the drivers side view and you can see the antenna holes, or at least the top two, in the passenger side view. You can also see a big patch wrapped around from the back on that pristine rear fender.   But no matter, probably half of the 151's in country had radios. And even more than that in this country. Think the name of the business is Military supplies and Leather?

We could pick it apart, but what I like best is the shovel and axe strap.

Bidding ended with no bids, on any of the stuff he was selling. Wonder if he even thought about my message to him? I doubt it. I was probably not the only one to point it out.
