If your pump goes out again and originality isn't an issue you can easily find inline 12v fuel pumps you can wire off of one battery and run.

24 volt fuel pumps can be found on eBay.

You do NOT want to do that! It will create an imbalance between the two batteries and you will end up with one dead battery and one overcharged battery. If you have to run something on 12 volts then get a converter from 24 volts to 12 volts. They are available in most truck stops.

Okay. It's been awhile. But I thought the fuel pump was bolted to the engine block. Not in the tank. What did I miss ?

straight 151 and A1 have an electric pump in the tank and a vacuum pump mounted on the block to power the wipers.

I did not know this. I have always worked on A2 engines I guess.

The straight 151 and the A1 have vacuum windshield wipers. The vacuum motor goes in the same spot as the A2 mechanical fuel pump in later models. I did just that, but switched out my windshield for an A2 windshield. Some have added a mechanical fuel pump to the early models and then pulled vacuum off the plug on the right side of the air intake manifold.

I have had many cars from the 50's-60's with vacuum wipers, You need a wipe you let off the gas. There is no problem running off of manifold vacuum.

Hi Manhorne,

Have you tested your old pump after removing the capacitor? Is it working?

I have an old pump I would like to fix.

Thanks,

Jerome
