Halfdunn, welcome to the site, good looking jeep, either it's had extensive metal work done or it's an aftermarket body, some pics of the bottom would be nice.
Re: Different locations for body id tags
It's a real one, he posted pic's of the well rusted Budd tag.

Yeah, I see the inner rear fenders now.
Re: Different locations for body id tags
Here are some pics of the underside of my M-151. May have been crushed on the corners but I do not believe it was cut.

Thanks for everyone's comments and suggestions. Been tinkering with new brake master cylinder, hooking up horn wires, hooking up dimmer switch, adding the final two rear tailpipe pieces, after attending the Florida MVPA Rally at Mt Dora.
Even took away the President's Award for our 1947 Cushman Model 59 Package Kar at Mt Dora.

Re: Different locations for body id tags
There is so much fishplating under there it is hard to tell if it was cut or not, kind of moot at this point. That last pic of the side panel I can tell you it is solid bondo, no body seams at all and there should be several there.

Re: Different locations for body id tags
Ken,
Getting the incidentals figured out on my A2 lately, and thought I'd try sanding around the spare tire mount for that elusive serial number. Again, no luck there. Now, I checked the sloping side portions that rise from the rear panel to form the carrier. The center circular portion had been cut out and re-welded by a previous owner so a home-built tire mount could be used for the different sized wheels and tires. Butcher!!

Jim, it was either that....or the previous owner didn't want the vehicle to have any kind of identification....and decided to replace the spare wheel boss with new metal.
It isn't all that many years ago that one of the US military vehicle magazines literally "disowned" the M151-series because ownership of one of these vehicles was (in their eyes)tantamount to owning a misappropriated vehicle. The magazine went on to say that M151s could not be entered in various MVCC events, competitions etc. There was at the time quite a frenzy being whipped up, with mutt owners living in fear of that knock on the door by the feds. No kidding.

Re: Different locations for body id tags
The ones I have found are on the flat part and struck lightly...could your old plate be under the new one?
slowest mutt east of the missippi..
Re: Different locations for body id tags
rickf: As far as the side body panels, no Bondo, just welded in metal plates cut to fit openings in body side panels. Panels may not be correct replacement for original body parts but do a good job replicating the sides.
Just getting a rear harness going into the body and attaching rear lighting. Now to find a decent trailer receptacle for the rear body panel. I have a hinged cover just not the guts. Also, have the tub removed from my M-416 trailer and working some surface rust away on both the tub and frame. Going to cover with Eastwood's Rust Encapsulator after rust removal and then final coat of O.D. Semi gloss 24087 on both. Should be the right paint for the 68' period for the Army.
Thanks to all for the suggestions and info, it is well appreciated.

Nice info. Thanks for sharing these.
Re: Different locations for body id tags
Hi,
is that serial no. on the signal control of any interest ?
Following muttguru's valuable hints, I identified my MUTT as an AM General A2 built in 1973...
Cheers,
Bernie form Germany
