ignition problem

Unread post by ian-b » July 12th, 2018, 4:12 pm

Hi all more problems, as per previous problem I cleaned out the carb put it back on and it ran perfectly for a day now another problem.
The mutt A2 is only firing on three cylinders number 2 lead has no spark, I have swopped leads and plugs also coil and it still does exactly the same,
which is.. if I connect a plug to the HT lead it has a really bright spark for around a second then nothing, all the others have a really cracking bright spark connected to plugs or when earthed, I can swap any combination of leads plugs and coils but number 2 no spark, it seems the second you put load on the HT lead it fails, when I rebuilt the mutt last year I put new distributor cap and swiss type electronic ignition in , with no road miles only tick over is it possible these have failed?.
many thanks
Ian

Sounds like a cracked distributor cap, look very closely for a carbon track near that terminal inside the cap.
