Maybe you have a buddy spraying oil on it from spray bottle??LOL I overhauled an engine in a friend's garage one time, he threw a bunch of bolts/hardware in pile/left me bewildered when putting together/had this stuff left over.

The correct fittings for the fording line is nothing more than a short section of brake line. Same exact size and material as the vent line going to the air cleaner.

Could it be that the master cylinder was overfilled.Several operations could have caused the excess to spurt out the little vent hole.
Just a thought.

Fil, maybe but the level is about a inch below the threads, I figured it was not too full but maybe it is. Vin bled the brakes and filled it. I don't know what the level is suppose to be but have not topped it off. I will look for a picture of the plumbing for the fording kit. I have brake line and fittings etc. and can make it up.

I said brake lines but then I thought about it, the line will be correct and the one end at the T fitting would be a double flare end but I am not sure what end is used on the cap. The cap may be machined for double flare. that would make sense anyway.

Yes, I clean it off with VMP Naptha or simple green etc. and it comes back after a 10 miles or so of driving. If I just wipe with a rag, I get black oily smear on the rag and paint, have to use a cleaner to remove. On the brake m/c cap and fitting, I'll check with some of the vendors. I can make up the brake line, single or double flair or what ever fitting I need. Was the line covered with the black woven sleeve? If so, I'll have to find some of that too. I have a lathe, mill, taps, dies, all the machinist tools, tig welder etc. Not much I can't make if I need to. It's been too hot to go out and crawl under to really inspect. I don't get around as easy after they put 2 Titanium plates screwed to my sternum, main reason I had to sell my M37, can't handle the steering on the old girl very well. Rebuilding the front and rear suspension was a real chore, torque wrench was a bear to handle. Just hell getting old and I just drove these back in the day, never had to worry about maintenance, that was the motor pool's job.

Halftracknut, I'll try to get a picture next time I drive it enough to get some accumulation.

Here is a trick I use to find oil leaks. Wash and dry the area in question and then dust the area down with baby powder an go for a short ride. Check often to see where the powder starts to show any sign of wetness. In your case get the powder all around the master cylinder area and that will tell you if it is coming from there. You can also use that method to find the other leak up front as well.

Rick, great idea, thanks, I'll try that. Johnson & Johnson or generic? :) I just bought (hasn't arrived yet) a new pressure washer, electric since I can't yank on the recoil cord very much anymore. I can use just the handle with a nozzle and crawl under to spray clean everything under side of engine, most likely including me. A good way to start the baby powder thing, a squeaky clean bottom.

Careful with that because I have sen pressure washers blow gaskets right into the engine when it hit them just right. Also try not to hit the suspension joints too much or the wiring connectors. These things were all designed for no more than a hosing down with no nozzle, definitely not a thousand lbs. of pressure.

Roger that.
I just found a much more important problem. I noticed a brake fluid leak in the driver's floor pan and snugged up the brake line fitting and checked the bolt. Bolt is tight, brake line had a little bit to snug, barely turn it, I used open end fitting wrenches, proper tools. All new brake lines. The vehicle has been sitting since last week and today I was replacing tie rod boots and happened to notice more brake fluid leaking on floor while turning the steering wheel. Checked the fittings and all is tight, I hate to break open the system because the brakes fell great but, looks like I need to order some new copper washers. I've wiped the fluid off the bottom of the m/c and checked before that and the body is dry, it's evidently leaking from either the brake line fitting or the copper gaskets. I definitely need to fix the leak. I will try pushing hard on the pedal to see if I can see which fitting is leaking. It is silicone brake fluid in the system. More fun, I did buy it to tinker :)

Before you take the fitting off you can push the brake pedal down a bit and prop it with a piece of wood or something back to the seat or dash. This will close off the return port and prevent the master cylinder from draining out all the fluid while you are working. Another thing you can try while waiting for new washers is take the old ones and heat them to glowing with a torch and them let them cool naturally. This will anneal them and return them to the soft state they should be in. They can work harden as you tighten the fittings. I have done this many times and had success. Sometimes it has to be done a couple times and sometimes it does not work but it costs nothing to try and you are waiting anyway.

Rick again another good idea, I've annealed copper and brass before, just hadn't thought to apply it to this situation.

Not an unusual problem!
For S&G give the hex nut another tug.
Found that my leak went away finally.
No more drip on the floor.
