M151 restoration
After 10 long years, she is finally home! I would like to thank Jay and Rickf for their help. Here are the pics divided into the barn find condition, haphazard and hurried restoration and the finished product. Warning pic heavy.
Now that she is fully restored, perhaps someone can tell me about her history? Like is she a straight 151 or an A1?

Re: M151 restoration
Sorry brother, your truck is not an actual M151 but an after-market body (Titan, Encore, or similar). An excellent restoration by the way.

Re: M151 restoration
What it actually is, matters not one bit. I see someone put a lot of love into that truck (though I do miss the windshield frame with the really cool vents) and that's what matters. You have taken great pride in that truck and it shows! Hope it runs just as well as it looks!
Cheers,

I believe it is a M151, just a little metal work and maybe a wipe, anyway, great looking jeep, I know you put a lot of work in it, just go enjoy it now.m75 wrote:Sorry brother, your truck is not an actual M151 but an after-market body (Titan, Encore, or similar). Re: M151 restoration
My guess is an a1 but a mix master of parts and some metal work thrown in to clean it up as Hambone says. Probably a USMC one because of the front bumper and rear brackets. I don't see any reason why they would care to try and make it look Marine vs. Army overseas... especially if they paint it USMC and then sacrilegiously place an Army plate in the spare.
Looks great!

Re: M151 restoration
Looks to me like a straight M151, it has a lot of early features, such as flat air cleaner, single hook latches for the hood (albeit removed in the restoration), push button hand brake, throttle pedal,...
BTW, our wiki is full of details on the different variants: http://g838.org/public_html/wiki/doku.php?id=m151

Re: M151 restoration
I am going to bet on a 64 A1. it has the third blackout brake light which pins it to an A1. 64 was a transition year and had a lot of straight parts on them, I know because I have one. But as was said you have a lot of mixed parts. You lost the single horn hood latches, that is a shame since they are hard to find. What kind of floor drains does it have if it has the original floors? That first windshield was an interesting one for sure and it appeared to fit quite well. I also noticed the rather interesting and non folding top bow brackets on the original version. M75, this is an original but it had a LOT of work done on it by people that did not care about originality.

Re: M151 restoration
Picture 6. What is the crazy handle/lever-looking thing sticking out of the cowling on the left side?
Re: M151 restoration
Floor panels look like they had work done so I don't think this will help solve the question but straight ones would have this type of drain...

Re: M151 restoration
That would be the one for the straight 151 but you have a lot of stuff going on with that mutt so really the hood latches you have are fine. I only made that comment because you showed the single horn latches on it originally. With the A1 third tail light it could go either way. The "drain" holes you have in the floor are nothing more than some drill holes. The originals would be either like the ones Surveyor showed or scupper types close to the back of the floorboard by the seat support.Tray wrote:

Re: M151 restoration
Great looking restoration! I love the early look of the indicators in the grill. I'm sure they had a good reason for changing from that style, but It looks cleaner that way.
