Mr. R, What exact rifle is that? It appears to be an M14 but the short stock and long gas tube are confusing.

M-1 Garand, with the short blade bayonet.

Ok, Maybe it is the gloves making the rifle look shorter than it really is. I have several Garands, With that bayonet, so you think I would recognize them.

Yes, that was the good old M-1 Grand! The M-14 became the standard issue sometime in 1959 but we were still training with the Grand and the BAR. 8)

I was going to comment that the barracks looked very familiar but the very first picture did not ring a bell. I don't remember overhangs on the old barracks. I was one of the last groups in those old barracks. All I can say is they had "Character"! But I would not have wanted to be in them in winter!
