Remembering Toptiger

Unread post by Horst » January 4th, 2022, 5:22 pm

I am in Grasse, France today.

This makes me remember GR Webster aka Toptiger who died this week 8 years ago. He owned two 151A2, was a gun ship pilot in Vietnam, an avid contributor to this site and first and foremost a very fine gentleman.

We had the luck to visit him and his wonderful wife (she owns Fragonard) at his home in France at the end of our first 151 tour through the Alps in 2013. viewtopic.php?f=2&t=7319&hilit=alps&start=15

Very much missed, He helped a lot of people out with his generosity. I miss his out of the blue phone calls from all ends of the earth because they were vacationing somewhere and the wife was out with the kids or shopping and he was bored so he would call me to talk war stories or mutts. I got calls from Africa, France, Germany, Switzerland, Japan and probably a few other countries. He was quite a character. One of his calls was on one of your trips and he put Michele on the phone, who I guess doe not speak English and my French is beyond terrible. I swear I heard you in the background laughing.

Indeed a fine and humble gentleman, especially for what he had accomplished. Definately missed by all that had the pleasure to make his acquaintance. RIP Top!

Yea, I miss him too. He was active on the G503 and offered advice when we first got the mutt back in 2004.

I just found a few photos I took when I visited Top at his place in Frostproof back in 2010, I took some parts to him and helped put them on his A-2. Had a nice lunch and spent the rest of the day moving some of his other toys around and was asked if I would mind taking his XKE Jag out for its by monthly exercise run  8) :D

Had a great visit with him here in Falmouth probably ten years ago.
He was staying in Chatham ,45 miles away.
He offered to come down.
We spent a plesant time together that afternoon.
Truly a great guy!
