M151 Rim adapted for tubeless tire ?

Unread post by mwmutt » April 25th, 2022, 12:08 pm

Hello everybody,

Changing my tires which are used, I think about tires "tubeless", but are the two types of M 151 Rim (A1 with Alcoa Rim and A2 with steel Rim) adapted for this application ?
thank you for your help

The old Magnesium rims are pretty hard to find and do not have a safety bead which is desired for tubeless tires. I am pretty sure the old mags were fairly porous also and would leak. The steel rims do have the safety bead and will work just fine. there are many, many people running modern radial tubeless tires on those rims. The rims do need to be in good, not rusted condition.

If you decide to go with radial it would be wise to go with LT series Not P series.
The P style have a lighter side wall that give a wobbly ride.

I don't think they have the LT designation in Europe, probably all P metric. George would know for sure.

MW, I am running tubeless on my A2 rims almost 8 months, no problems, no loss of air. My rims were in good shape, not new but good and I just put the tires on, all good.

hi

we have also the light truck tyre`s with the thick sidewalls
you must look at the speed letter and the loadindex
for the mutt it is not nessesery it is a light and not fast vehicle

for the size it must be a 16 inch and 80 % high and more pr the thicker the sidewall

normaly a suv or 4x4 if it go offroad youy can lower the tyre pressure to get more grip
with a tubeless the tyre can get off from the rim and is empty :(
if there is a innertube this can not happen :)
