What year is this M151

Unread post by FoxMike » June 24th, 2023, 7:34 am

I've done a lot of searching and think that the following makes my M151 a 1976 or 1977. Looking to see what other thoughts the board may have. Where I have typed xx, there is a number.

Data plate with a contract run of DAAE07-76-D-0002, B151-660xx. Also, there is a tunnel tag, C151026xx. On the windshield frame, 02C026xx is painted on the passenger side. There are cup turn signal inserts. The mutt possibly came from a Navy or USMC base.
On the engine (which I realize is likely not the same one from the factory) DAAE07-71-C-0103, serial 50321xx

I am pretty sure Ken the Mutt guru will see this sooner or later and chime in on it. The number on the windshield frame does not sound right. They did not put numbers on the windshield but they did put them on the dash behind the grab bar. But you never know what private dumbo was thinking when he was told to put the number in there. But everything else seems to point in the right direction you are thinking.

Mike,

as Rick says, the number would not be on the windshield. And the number you quote is from a 1970 to 1973 registration. If your A2 has emission controls fitted, then the windshield is from a different (earlier) vehicle.
So here are a couple of questions for you:-
1. Does your vehicle have emission controls?
2. Is the dash dataplate a "real" one? (ie not obviously hand-stamped)? Is there any mention on the plate of "US PROPERTY" ? (pics would be a help).
3. Look at the info plate on the horn mounting bracket. what does it say?

let us know and we can probably help.

ken
Kind regards....
Ken

Thanks for the replies.
Yes, the 02C026xx is on the windshield frame and not behind the grab bar. When the previous owner was restoring this 151, he discovered it behind the then present layer of paint.
1. Emissions controls where installed when this mutt was recovered after sitting since the 1990s. The canister is not on there now, but I have a picture of it on there.
2. The data plate is the one attached prior to restoration. No mention of US property. Picture attached.
3. There is no horn mounting bracket currently.

I'm sending muttguru the complete number details via PM.

I read something about dataplates the other day and wondering if it is true. Next to the MFR Serial No. in the plate above there is all numbers prior to the B151 serial number. Does this make it a USMC plate?
Also, for the number on the windshield frame, my guess is it is a replacement like suggested. I also read that the last 2 numbers in the 02C026xx scheme would be the year of the vehicle, or at least when the military took delivery? The last 2 digits of mine are nothing close to a M151 year of production.

I would question the use of screws holding the data plate onto the dash.

Screws were the normal attachment on the 151. There were a couple years they used rivets but most all years used screws.

Not yet.

It's been fun digging into all of these small details that differentiate these vehicles.

He probably missed it You might want to send another. If you have a pic of the other number on the windshield be sure to send that to him also.
