dust it off

Unread post by moose53 » April 26th, 2009, 12:32 pm

With the snow finally melted and an actually decent almost springlike day yesterday I decided to get my mutt out of winter storage. Amazingly it started right up with no coaxing needed. I drove it around a bit to get the charge topped off on the batteries and brought it up to the big hangar so I can get started doing some more work on it before the May events get here. unfortunately we have three events in May and nothing the rest of the year locally. Wish they would spread them out a bit! Everybody got their mutts out now for the summer???

I took my side curtains off a couple of weeks ago. We drive ours all year round in the deep South. It is already in the 80s here near Fort Benning, Georgia.

the goal for this summer is to get the M60 mounted, the radio set-up completed, and the odds and ends like M16 racks, grenade box, decon bottle etc mounted. who knows, maybe I'll even get the heater installed....

My A2 has been out of storage for 3 1/2 weeks, but got snowed on in the driveway the first days out. Now temps in the 80's it feels like time to take the top off and prepare for summer. It too started right up with no coaxing. Had it stored with less than 2 gal of fuel in it with Seafoam and Marvel added.
Put about 100 miles on it so far, and all is well, almost.
I stored it this year with my canvas top set mounted on it. Worried about mice, but it was fine in it's barn home for the cold Ohio winter. I see now taking the doors off that I have a bit of rust in the door channels. Never considered the difference between storing it with vinyl/canvas, but no more canvas long term on my jeeps. It was raining the day it was put in the barn, and also the day I took it out, and the canvas held moisture. :( Never had that happen to me with vinyl on it in the winter. Next year is paint for the A2 anyway, but will have to do a little rattle can work to make it pretty for it's 3 Memorial Day parades and it's weekly show schedule.

I like canvas on the seats and vinyl for the top for just that reason, even though I think the canvas top looks better

Took the side curtains and doors off the MUTT today and took a ride around town. It was the first day that felt like summer for a long time. Have been using it regularly all winter when it has been dry but it is so much more enjoyable without all the side curtains and doors.

I took my little girl and 2 of her friends riding around out in the country last night. I couldn't hear how the M151 was running because of the high pitch laughter, squeals, and screams of three 8 year old kids riding with me. It seemed as if it was a contest to see who could talk the loudest, and shriek the highest. I was worried my windshield, mirrors, and headlights would shatter back into sand.

Hey guys!
I had mine out last night too 8) . Showed a buddy how to drive it and then we took a cruise around town. It was a beutiful night out w/plenty of stars in the sky 8) I know because I took the top off earier in the week and haven't had it back on yet. I haven't had the doors or curtains on it since I brought it home in early spring.

With same friend, I took the A2 for a short spin up in the mountains earlier in the week while the weather was nice out. At one point, we lost the trail we were on and had to manuver between trees until we found it again 8) . Can't do that in a 5 ton :P . The end of this month, my buddy and me are taking the A2 on a 3-4 day camping trip up in those same mountains. Can't hardly wait :) .
