Marine Corp markings?
Does someone have a pic of an A2 with proper Marine Corps markings? I see a gaggle of Army MUTT's with markings, but I am drawing a blank so far in regards to a Marine Corp model. There is a difference in the markings between the two services, isn't there? I am interested in proper markings, not Bubba stuff.
Thanquez, guys.

Bill,
I can only tell you what my A2 has as markings. On hood USMC and the 6 digit hood number. Left rear bumper USMC, right rear bumper the 6 digit number. No stars. Everything in flat black.
And that's everything it has.
As it was stored, it has a few numbers on the bumper, indicating when it was last preserved and some kind of lot number.

Re: Marine Corp markings?
Bill,
Mine was also USMC and marked as Horst discribed with the addition of a warning on the dash reminding the driver to install the plug in the flywheel cover prior to fording and the six digit number on the dash below the grab handle.

This one was posted on Ebay recently and looked to me to be real authentic. Check out these pictures and decide for yourself:

Re: Marine Corp markings?
What my original hood markings looked like. No specific rules to USMC markings.....Marines are all "Bubba's"
Gold lettering seemed to be the norm on A1's from what I have reserched. I've yet to see original photos of a USMC A2 with anything other than hood markings like these. Good luck,,Joe

Re: Marine Corp markings?
Marine Corps markings are defined in DOD military standard 642L, which is available here in our manual section...Bill, Idaho wrote:Does someone have a pic of an A2 with proper Marine Corps markings? Re: Marine Corp markings?
I don't believe these markings are correct for an A2. I am with gpready (Joe), the real thing is significant less fancy than the big markings most people put on their MUTTs. No TP markings, just the fording instruction on the dash and the usual overfill caution at the tank.

Bill,
forget about A1, A2 etc. What you need to determine is what your vehicle should represent....
ie semi-gloss USMC green, or 4-color camouflage, or 3-color camouflage. Once you determine the era that you want to represent, then it will be one of the above, with the appropriate markings for the paint scheme.
Kind regards....
Ken

GPReady: Great pictures. By the way, did the troops call you "Chief"? Most of the senior Warrant Officers in the Army were called that. The W-1 and W-2s I came into contact with were usually chopper pilots.

Re: Marine Corp markings?
When I got it, I repainted it in it's "original"--or I should more accurately say its last official paint scheme....4 color desert.
I compared the patterns to the paint-by-number TM drawings and it was relatively close. During my re-painting preparations(sanding), I discovered 2 inch "USMC" on the hood. There was a 6 digit number right next to the USMC, but those were "destroyed", or someone tried their best to make those unreadable. There was a 3 digit number on the drivers side dash, next to the light switch. Nothing on the front bumper. The rear had the same "de-mil" in regards to the 6 digit number on the passenger side bumperette.
I want the markings to reflect USMC, mid to late 70's, with a unit that would have utilized 4 color desert. Since this MUTT didn't appear to have any specific use, ie: TOW, communications, recoiless, etc, I would think that would assist in giving it a units designation. Or at least rule out a bunch. (All it had were the holes for the sponson plate on the passenger side and the corner antenna mount .
I was pretty lucky when I found this particular MUTT. I think I can safely say Bubba did NOT have anything to do with this one.
I'm just sayin'.
