Front Seat back cushions

Unread post by snuffy » June 17th, 2009, 11:50 pm

I have seen a gazilliion of these that came off 151a1s and a2s. Every one I saw slipped over the back of the front seat frame and had a storage pouch in the back. I had a slight brain spasm I guess and it occurred to me that maybe there were other styles of the seat cushions. I'm especially concerned about the early 151 cushions. In the manual they don't show a storage pouch on the back of the seat???? Thoughts?

Thanks
Snuffy

Snuffy,
the pocket on the rear of the front seat cushions was there from the start. My 1960 and 1962 Drivers TMs both show the pocket.

Which TM are you using? :D
Kind regards....

I am curious, why are there seat bottoms everywhere you look but seat backs? I mean absolutely none, zilch. The bottom is going to wear out faster than the top.

Not sure how many of you guys are using vinyl seats and backs, but my seats are in much better condition than the backs. The top corners seem to be flaking from abrasion or the weight of the stuff I keep in the pouch. No matter what the cause, I need backs and not bottom cushions. Saw a super nice custom made set on the convoy, but never got to ask the owner where he had them made. They were much nicer than GI, softer vinyl and more cush to the cushion. :D

Canvas seat back 3 or 4 years old. Always garaged, vinyl top never removed.

You can tear a paper in a day or preserve it for 100 years, but since we are not preserving here, its all a matter of taking care. Loosly tied the bottom will wear off earlier than expected by the weight on it and its rubbing against metal. Moisture and then direct sunlight also affect the threads of the canvas and weight points get weak.

Other than these cushions, what other items are getting harder to find?

RT 524 radio covers are available from the guy in Italy for about $100 including shipping. Is there a cheaper source? It doesn't have to be NOS.

524 and 442 cover.
Rainman was working on a volume deal for them, I don't know how far it went.

You are right! Especially when it comes to this hobby. Another odd thing is that you can find NOS A-1 steering wheels cheap but no A-2 wheels unless you want gov reconditioned. Were there more 151's and A-1's produced which used the earlier type wheel than the A-2 that used the different type of wheel?
